Why is this worthy of 2 separate threads?
Everyone should be working together to move their respective city forward instead of bragging/baiting in regards to one particular "race"

This is about the metro area, not the city. Metro Atlanta now has more African Americans in raw numbers than any other metro save NYC. From the article:

New numbers from the Brookings Institution's "State of Metropolitan America" study show the 28-county metro Atlanta region now has more African-American residents than even Chicago. It previously held the #2 spot.

No one is "bragging" or "baiting," but this is a huge demographic shift that's worth reporting on. And just because we're discussing it hardly means that people aren't "working together to move their respective city forward." As a matter of fact, I resent the implication (attracting more AA's = moving backwards).

Big deal. Atlanta has a large population of every group, as does every other metro in the top ten. That just comes with the territory of being the 7th largest metro in the US. Houston and Dallas both have a ton of blacks, so does DC, Miami, and Philadelphia. Atlanta may have the 2nd-highest, but those other metros are not far behind.

I think others get annoyed because people on here seem to get off on the number of blacks that are here, including making multiple threads about it and talking about it ad nauseum. Atlanta really isnt that special. Besides, the ARC predicts the Hispanic population of Atlanta to overtake the black population in 15 years or so.

The point is not the amount of African Americans in the metro, but the staggering growth of that group in metro Atlanta and I suspect you know that. From ranking 7th in 1990 to 2nd in 2010 is a HUGE change no matter how much you attempt to downplay it. That would go for any other racial/ethnic group.

Like it or not, it's one of the things that Atlanta is known for and is actually a big reason why Atlanta is the prosperous metro that it is now. Because it was able to transcend vehement racial strife and market itself as "the city too busy too hate," it fostered a very positive business climate, especially for the South. The rest, as they say, is history. If you don't like it, you can move to Birmingham. They took the opposite approach and you see where they are today.

Yeah, and we are also now in the top 10 metros for Asian percentage. The hispanic population has increased five-fold since 1995. But I dont see any threads celebrating this.

Houston, Dallas, DC, Miami - they have all seen huge increases in blacks. They just didnt have the same base population that Atlanta had.

Again, some people fantasize about blacks being the one and only minority group that's growing, so they play up the black population growth. Their ultimate dream is for blacks to be the majority, so they get very excited when they see news like this, posting multiple threads and telling everybody how HUGE of a deal this is.

The reality is that Atlanta had a large black population to begin with, so its no surprise its now the 2nd largest. Keep in mind Atlanta's population in 1990 was 2.5 million and 29% black. Now it is 5.6 and 30% black. Clearly there has been just as signifigant growth for every other group as well, its just not as drastic of a change numerically speaking since there were virtually none here in 1990.

If you dont like the fact that blacks wont be the sole and dominant miniority in the new multi-racial Atlanta, move to Birmingham.

Don't forget the ghetto drag queens. They are everywhere in Atlanta. Atlanta is very unfriendly toward white gays.

because after detroit failed, atlanta is the last remaining bastion of hope... atlanta is a fort of mismanagement and corruption but it stays afloat because there is still a segment of residents that pump in massive tax revenues to make up for all the insignificant contributions by the maj of residents.

really it is an important case study. can it make it? or will it fail. the next 10 years will show.

Say the same about the entire country. At the rate we've been going for the past 10 years, I'd say there's a lot to be worried about. Soon we'll be looking for work in China and Brazil, at the rate we've been going . (Stop making it look like it's an Atlanta only thing. As if being in the South being run by RePUBlicans helped any with controlled spending. This has proven to be BS. Both the same crap. Same ineptitude going throughout GA. Enough of your anti Atlanta, anti Liberalism crap ).

Looks like someone was rear ended by these queens they speak highly of, and didn't like it. , , ...

Sounds like sour grapes to me. You'll get over it. Miami's waiting for you...en Espanol...
