Also, yesterday there was an entire Apartment complex that was condemned due to "raw sewage" being in the building. Now all of those people are homeless! It's very, very sad.

Perhaps that is an alternative.

Why should it have to come this? I will never understand.

Clayton County was no where near this bad back in 2002, why is it so corrupt now? How in the world does the sheriff's son get busted for robbery? If they have not hit rock bottom then they're close to it; good thing we're moving to Cobb or Fulton County

I thought I had read that their resignation was due to the school board refusing to follow the recommendations of the advisor. In other words, they were advised to step down so a new board could be installed, but they refused.

Here's an article from the ajc:

State advisers to Clayton schools resign | ajc.com (http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/clayton/stories/2008/04/30/claysacs_0501.html - broken link)

Here's a nonsense quote from the article that doesn't inspire confidence:

"I will do all I can," said Thompson, an educator for more than 40 years. "I'll go to sleep at night knowing I've been at work 24-7."

Uh, ok.

The school board is 'Defensive' ie 'blamed' the advisors. I'm certain they will eventually blame everyone involved but themselves.

Where did they get the $$$ to hire the new superintendent and provide 24/7 security for him.

Insane.

The worst part is that this is completely an administrative problem. These people on the board don't have children that are going to be affected by their bad decisions. They aren't listening to ANYONE...why any of them would fight to stay on this sinking ship is beyond me. They truly must not be able to see their personal responsibility in all of this. I feel really bad for those poor kids whose entire futures are going to be damaged by this situation. I wish there was more that the state could do to help.

It was even better than that- the whole quote from Thompson had him using the old standby "I'm leaving it in God's hands" line. Nothing like taking responsibilty for doing the job you're hired to do- instead just blame it on "God's will" if it doesn't turn out as it should.......

What sort of person would serve on a school board if he/she had no concern for children or the community's future? Chilling.

They will all need bodyguards.

I agree. That's a pathetic cop out.

Not to be Pollyanna but I think Clayton can only get better now. I think it's hit rock bottom. The clean-up will be painful but after that things should start improving quickly.
