"The coast is only 6 hours away".

I said that too during my first spring/summer here. It gets pretty old. Of course, I'm from Florida and never lived more than 45 minutes from the shore...

Have you been to the Atlanta metro area? Scoped it out?

When I say "no water", I don't just mean "no ocean". I mean no large lakes in the metro area, no rivers (ok the Hooch is like, a STREAM), I don't even think I've seen a retention pond.

Of course, many people are happy here. My advice still stands, however. Visit a FEW times before making a tremendous move.

I work right by Northside Hospital... you should think about moving pretty close. The traffic is not good around here.

Default I'm looking for a 30min or less commute

The office is right by northside hospital, I found a really nice house in Roswell, East Cobb county less then 14 miles from my office. We will see, I need to get offered the job first.

Default What are your taxes like?

I hear that Fulton has high taxes. What zip code do you live in? What year is your house built in? What is this home tax exemption I keep reading about. There is no clear cut answers out there. My wife and I are looking at spending 350k or less for a 4 bed 2 1/2 bath. We are looking for a house that is 15 years old or less. We can spend a little more if the house is right.

You can probably get your fill of water by occasionally renting a boat out on the lake (Acworth or Lanier) and regularly travelling out to the coast, which has some of the best beaches in the country within 5 hours (Destin, Hilton head)

Default reply to DodGA and msugand4ever

Dobgy, Sorry I have already purchased my home in Roswell. You are right this city is great. My wife and I are very happy with our choice.

msugan4ever, I would say it's a a big little city, the city is large but has a small feel. The schools are great, and the people here in the south will blow you away with kindness. I grew up in NY until I was 23 and then decided I needed a change. I moved out to California where I lived for almost ten years. Now I live in this great community in Roswell GA. If I could have it my way, I would have a the food of NY, the people of GA and live in Caly. Caly was great, some of the best years of my life, but I needed a change with my career, so I took the leap and jumped. I couldn't be happier.
