If you were say in Gwinnett County with Peachtree Ridge or North Gwinnett are those two school reputable or would it be wise to look to a private school like Wesleyan?

Peachtree Ridge and North Gwinnett are fantastic high schools and clusters to choose from.

You really do not need to look any further.

Congratulations!

FYI,

The feedback on parents of Springdale Park Elementary has been uniformly positive.
Springdale Park Elementary School (http://srt3.atlantapublicschools.us/springdale/site/default.asp - broken link)

Zone map: http://srt3.atlantapublicschools.us/21042087838163/lib/21042087838163/_files/SPARKAttendanceZoneMap.pdf (broken link)

Springdale Park split off from Morningside Elementary, another well-regarded intown school.

We won't see any test scores for a while but it seems like the same quality as Morningside.

Also, Mary Lin seems to have really improved in just the last 10 years (judging by test scores).

Just tossing this out as I know some people are looking to move intown and may have questions about the quality of the schools.

Something about elementary school ratings was just posted in another thread. Let me see if I can find it...

This may be a starting point:

I'm a huge supporter on Private School in Atlanta. There are a few (I stress - a few..Riverwood and Walton) that are very competitive public schools on par with several private schools.

For the most part, the private school world in Atlanta is completely different. Some of the things I hear about in public school life is completely unheard of at my school. The students as a whole are much more disciplined because you don't deal with kids that are there because they have to be. There are major consequences for actions and it is just a more structured atmosphere. (Once again.. for the MOST part).

My school, for instance, regularly has an acceptance rate of 80-85% at UGA, whereas it might be 10% at an Atlanta Public School.

Ah, but does that indicate that the education at your private school is better, or does it merely show that the quality of incoming students at your private school is significantly higher than average?

How would an average public school do with the same set of students?

That's true. But that was also one of my points. In private schools the students as individuals tend to be of higher caliber. It's an environment more conducive to learning.

That, and the majority of my teachers hold PhD's. My AP US History teacher, for instance, is the leader of the APUSH board. Many teachers are able to teach at a college level but instead choose to teach high school. There is much more school unity. It's really something I can't put into words. The experience for me (and for most.. no matter how much we complain) has been incredible.
