If it's part of the Gwinnett County School System, the elementary school won't (and can't) be private.

For what it's worth, US News & World Report just issued their 2010 Best High Schools.

No Atlanta schools are in the top 100.

Overall, Georgia ranks 20th in the nation on this report.

You can check the rankings of GA schools at the magazine's web site:

Saw that this morning- just another worthless study meant to sell more magazines. The methodology they used was bizarre- they looked at schools to see how they did on "serving all students equally" and only those schools that made the grade on that measure got moved to the next level, where the metric they used for ranking was AP and IB test quantities. So essentially, even if a school has excellent results for a good portion of their population, if they have some slackers that are dragging them down, they don't make the rankings. That explains why schools like Walton, Pope, Lassiter, Sequoyah, Grady, etc., aren't anywhere in the list, while some metro area schools that don't come close to making the top spots in other rankings are included.

I hope people are smart enough to dig into the methodologies used in these studies, rather than just taking what U.S. News says as gospel.

Someone needs to put together America's Top 10 Best High School Ranking Lists. That way we'll know who to believe.

Last night at the final performance of the Atlanta Symphony's "Very Merry Holiday Pops" concerts, a lady sitting next to us was in tears at the beauty of the choral singing. The choir that so moved her consisted of 150 members of Cobb county's Lassiter and Walton High School choruses. She was quite amazed that they were public high school students.

It's wonderful that so far, in the midst of all the budget difficulties and cutbacks, Cobb schools have been able to maintain first-rate music programs in band, orchestra and chorus. The arts are vital to a true well-rounded education. My daughter was in that choir and I am very grateful for the musical education she's receiving at Lassiter.

Kudos to Mr. and Mrs. Williams, the choir directors at Lassiter and Walton respectively.
