All the school ranking websites that I know of are intrastate. There is no national comparison because the testing and criteria are so different from state to state. As far as Georgia schools ranking low nationally, a lot of those statistics come from SAT testing, which may or may not be required for all high school students. If you compare a state like GA, where almost all students take the SAT, to a state that has voluntary SAT testing, of course the state that requires all to do it will rank lower. It is not a good measure of anything. Unfortunately, I do not know of any system that is a good measure of education across state lines. Perhaps someone else will chime in with better info

Blake, if you find you like living in Smyrna, I believe Teasley elementary, right there, is well regarded.

Im guessing if Atlanta had good schools people would tout the rankings. Just like how the airport is lauded for number 1. Since GA does poorly, now it's the tests which are wrong..

Smyrna is nice but the schools suck. Mableton/Bankhead is down rift disaster. The Atlanta public schools maybe federally investigated. dekalb county may loose accreditation. Clayton lost accreditation.

So yes, you do get what you pay for. East Cobb still good and Alpharetta, suwanee.

For parents who can't afford to live in East Cobb, expensive houses and Alpharetta/Suwanee commute, they are forced to deal with the other schools systems.

In every school system there are the better schools and the problem ones. It is tricky labeling whole school systems............

some parents are just stuck............

Parts of the metro do have houses in the 100k range with decentr schools. Forsyth county is a good example. In Atlanta you can't have it all. You either live with no commute in very sketchy areas unsuitable do kids, or you commute. Those really are the two options-- for the normal folks. There is always the option to leave Atlanta too, thankfully!

This is just completely untrue and sounds like it's coming from someone who doesn't know a whole lot about the neighborhoods inside the perimeter. There are so many wonderful schools ITP.

What are the wonderful public schools? Or is this just your personal opinion? I laid out facts, but would like to know of any good schools inside the perimeter which are public and where "good" means the standard definition, not compared to South Chicago or elsewhere the demographics mirror Atlantas population.
