Atlantic Station was built right during the Great Recession.
It was definitely a failed project- I mean the holes originally designed for high-rises are now some weird arena and a Microsoft building that honestly doesn't match the style of Atlantic Station
Overall- Atlantic Station is still a work in progress but has greatly improved over the years!

Some try to throw Atlantic Station in with "Midtown," and frankly that enormous highway is enough to prevent any sort of cohesion. Yeah, I should consider Atlantic Station as Midtown any more than I would consider Midtown as Downtown. AS is its own district with a separate skyline.

The streets are all private; the whole parking deck setup with the streets atop it have been an unnavigable mess because they close almost all of the streets at random times and force you to drive into the deck. It feels weirdly sterile. I wouldn't call it a neighborhood of the city. You can definitely tell you are going into a private development. Like a mall big enough to drive through.
