Perhaps those that are complaining the most are the same ones who speed the most

I suppose a good alternative to this would be to post snipers on the overpasses to shoot all the speeders! I'm sure a couple of weeks of that enforcement would cut number of speeders on the highways dramatically!!

Unless you're going over 5mph over the limit (and it's pretty much fail safe that the camera won't be THAT innaccurate) you should be okay.
These cameras out here don't even take pics unless you are already 10 mph over the limit!! Speedometers aren't that far off!

One of the reasons for the over 10 MPH rule is to allow for the 1 to 3% variation in speedometer calibrations on vehicles.

Remember driving is a 'privelege', not a constitutional right. And that privelege can be revoked at any time for driving violations.

"out here" is where? red light cameras are for red light runners, not speeders. i see them taking pics all the time for those who pass the stop line after the yellow left turn arrow has gone red. they also check for seatbelt in the pics.

The cameras we are talking about are speed cameras - and they are being set up all over the state on the freeways

its kinda pointless. soon there will be a "speed camera" map posted on Google. the state would have to place the cameras every 1/4 mile or so to really restrict speed.

there is a happy medium where just enough cameras will help slow traffic in the speeding zones, but not too many cameras that the revenue stream from tickets becomes zero...... but again, once people know where they are they will slow down there, and then speed up more in other places.... possibly making the situation (safety) even worse.....

cameras are not the solution.... a hefty fine will work better. as example, if you get a speeding ticket from highway patrol you get a $500 "safety" penalty + some small extra $$ for Xmph over the limit. you'll most likely be more weary in that zone next time, etc.

if the state is paying for cameras that means you,me,state residents are paying for them. i'd rather they use hefty fines instead....

The premise behind them are very simple.

The cover will have many ridges, distortions, or other means of causing refraction of light. Think of looking into a body of water from an angle, same premise. The ridges cause the license plate characters to become distorted and unreadable, however there is a limit to the viewing angle. The closer to directly behind the vehicle you get the clearer it will appear.

So for those of us in Arizona Speed cameras are the main concern. In the left most lane its a very very wide angle for the cameras to snap a picture from, So purchasing a working cover is not difficult.

However the covers that DONT work are the ones that work on the same premise as the spray, that they can cause glare and a reflection of the flash to make your plate an unreadable white box. However Lockheed Martin is well past countering that.

i would think that the State would be considered "stupid" for buying camera technology that relies on the visible spectrum. but then again, we elected those people...
