My family will be moving to Anchorage from Seattle in August of 2013. I'm pretty excited about the move, but, having never been to Anchorage, I'm completely clueless about what neighborhood to look for housing in. We live in North Seattle right now and really like the family friendly nature, granola attitude, and walkability of our current neighborhood, and are hoping to find something similar in Anchorage. We are hoping for a single family house, and looking to spend around $2000/month. Any thought?

Should I look into working with a relator or property management company? If so recommendations would be great.

Also, any advise on childcare would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Is it possible to come up for a week to visit? It would give you a chance to look around and get a feel for things.

If you like where you are now maybe you should stay? Eagle River would be your best bet for the granola factor.

Yep, definitely coming to the wrong place. I've never heard the term "walkability" applied to Anchorage. Many of the streets don't even have sidewalks.

It didn't take long for the haters to come out.

If you don't mind the commute, I would encourage you to look in Palmer, we are family friendly and we definitely need more granola attitude up here as you can see. If you would like more info, please send me a DM (direct message).

Likely sidewalks aren't a deal breaker for me.

Maybe I wasn't as clear as I should have been. I would like to live in a neighborhood that has other young professionals with families, where my neighbor might like to come over and drink some home brew, and that is close to a park or trail. It would be fun to see the occasional chicken wondering around, but obviously that isn't a necessity.

Additionally, while there are attributes of my current location that I like, I welcome the change of pace and scenery this move will offer. I have liked everywhere I've had the pleasure to live and view moving as an adventure and an opportunity for new experiences.

Now that describes about 70% of Anchorage!

I can't help but wonder how a chicken wandering around applies to anything? I keep re-reading to figure out what I've missed! LOL
