Tons of my true blue native northwesterner neighbors bought an RV and wintered in Arizona once they retired. Being old...just wanted some warmth and sun. They came back in spring.

Even dedicated northwesterners often appreciate sunnier winters and "rainbird."

Nah. At that point you trade in your PNW card. Sorry, that's just how it is.

We bought already our vacation and eventual retirement home in Tampa.

However, many true blue northwesterners (including my wife) cannot wait to get out of there in their retirement years.

OK, I was going to ask b/c I'm nosy, so thanks for sharing. But I'm curious, are you going to live there year- round, except for traveling? The humidity & heat knock me out.

Then she is no longer true blue. That is the rule.

The retirees that I know who moved to this state had one reason - they were following the children/grandchildren.

True blue children/grandchildren are permissible.

Eventually we will live here year round maybe with the exception of a couple of months here and there (we are thinking buying another vacation house in my native Sicily).

You will get used to the humidity and heat in summer. Tampa Bay area is fantastic, great food, fantastic nature and great outdoors, so many beautiful beaches, clean and new roads, very good level of services in shops and restaurants. The only downside (not for me) is the absolute lack of public rail system, a serious negative for such a large metro area.

Another advantage is the pleasure of living again in what I can call a properly built home (cinder blocks, tile roof) with a level of finishing that can rub shoulders with homes in Medina or Mercer Island and not the glorified wood shacks in the northern states. No more worries about constant monitoring for rot, leaky roofs, termites, etc...

So far very happy.

I've known a few couples who retired to some island or other in Puget Sound. Some relatives of mine retired from Southern California to Port Townsend, but this was back in the 80's. I guess they were part of the crowd who "ruined" it and made it too expensive.
