Waste of energy at this point. Dems own two branches and have a mixed judicial court that seems to be less conservative than expected. Who knows what happens in ‘22. But, seriously isn’t this the way it should work?

I have always viewed Sequim as slightly more on the conservative side and a very friendly place.
If someone told me it was about 50/50 percent I’d probably agree with that but I don’t really know.
I am actually just fine with people that don’t share my beliefs as long as they don’t bother me.

Politically I am a centralist that shares both liberal and conservative beliefs.
I vote by topic not by party lines.
Maybe that’s why this area works for me.

We live outside town in unincorporated Sequim.
Each time I go shopping I am just amazed at all the friendly greetings I get.
On one trip to 2 stores I counted 6 times I was greeted nicely (and chatted with some) with people I have never met.

I actually look like an old hippie with my hair half way down my back and I am pretty sure my greetings came from both liberals and conservatives.
Maybe I just look friendly who knows .

I did notice the Trump signs though.
We almost bought our retirement place in Tennessee.
Tennessee rural areas is what we wanted but then I saw all those BIG sinners are going to hell signs along field fencing.
Signs kinda creep me out.

Regardless of what a city manager might want I don’t ever see Sequim becoming an unpleasant place to live or visit.
It just to friendly and diverse.
I hear more political hate speech in California.

I would think that the methadone clinic/psychiatric clinic that the tribe plans to build in town would be a bigger concern. It will benefit no one but the tribe.

It was approved by the city coucil during a special closed-door meeting. Someone's palms were plenty greased to let that one slide

I live outside of Sequim...just over a mile. This is the friendliest place we've ever lived. We know our neighbors and get along fine with them. No one asks what political party you favor. We talk about other things, not politics. In the 2020 presidential election, Clallam County went for Biden by about 3 percent. If you sum the results for the Sequim precincts only, Biden took Sequim by about 15 percent.

I had no idea who the mayor was until the news story came out. And, he was not elected, he was appointed. I seriously doubt his opinion on Qanon represents the majority of people in Sequim.

I had the weirdest neighbors in Seattle, in two different locations. Just to give you an idea, one of the neighbors across the street burned down the neighboring house to his, owned by a single mom. And that's just the across-the-street neighbors. I was sandwiched in-between some very idiosyncratic people, myself. It would be nice to live somewhere, where the neighbors were friendly and made an effort to get along.

By whom was Sequim's mayor appointed? No democracy in Sequim? No local elections for mayor?

I have never stepped foot or even driven through Seattle.
Don’t plan on it either.
I have seen enough of city life working in San Francisco.
We came here for the nice stuff.
For me the nice things are just a bit west .

The mayor was a city councilman. The other city council members chose him to be mayor, Mayor of Sequim is not a position voted for by the public.

The future drug rehab/psych clinic to be built in the middle of Sequim & owned and managed by the Tribe was not put to a vote of the people either. Instead, the city council approved the clinic in a closed, secret meeting. The public learned of this through an article in the local newspaper.

Today’s edition online of the local newspaper, The Peninsula Daily News, has an article about the mayor and QAnon. Apparently, CNN came to the peninsula and interviewed him, although he refuses to speak with the local press.

Yes, here is the mayor's interview with CNN. Strange to imagine CNN coming to the tiny town of Sequim.
