Roosevelt Reservoir is the place to paddle. Not many people on the water, clean, sunny.
Yeah, 100+ degrees does happen here, but very rarely. In the last two super-hot years, I think that there were only 4 or 5 days total, between the two years, that were over 100.

The Spokane meteorologist has said that Spokane's average number of days above 90 degrees in a summer is 19, so I assume that Colville is close to that number or slightly higher. Of course, last year, I think we had over 30 days above 90.

And yes, kayaking, boating, inner-tubing, etc. can all be done in spades around here, either on Lake Roosevelt or on the Kettle River.

How deep is the Kettle River at it's deepest spot near Colville, PS90? I am stoked over that fact that the Kettle River and Lake Roosevelt are close and available ta play in. We don't yet have a kayak but I would lobby with Mrs. elkotronics immediately ta buy one.

PS90 - what are the grocery store choices there? Safeway and Wal*Mart?

Hmmm, I really have no idea, but there is a spot that the kids jump off a 10-15 foot high rock cliff, so I'm guessing maybe 20 feet deep at the most. I think most spots are only a few feet deep. Good for kayaking or tubing, but not for a large boat. Any kind of motor-boating can be done on the Columbia/Lake Roosevelt.

Safeway, Wal-Mart, Super One (a regional chain in Eastern WA, Idaho, Montana), and an IGA in Kettle Falls.

Excellent - we liked Super One from Coeur d' Alene when we lived there during the last half of 2012. Well, I'm still working here in Kansas and moving is very expensive. I sure won't try for an out-of-state job until I feel it would be a better fit for myself working and for the two of us and our 4 animals. But I now know a lot more than I did and I notice the job there in Colville continues to go unfilled.

So we shall see. Thanks so much for your help, PS90. Sure do appreciate it!

Well, well...my Allied Healthcare job looks to be tanking here. The upside of that is the job in Colville looks to be available still, and I'm still interested. Boss man said ta start flinging applications out. So, if I needed any more of a hint ta start job searching, I received it last night. It's not me, it's the getting of patients and approving their health insurance that the place I work at is struggling with.

So, PS90, I can apply there for the Colville job. I am a Washington native, so I'm stoked somewhat ta see what I can drum up. I still have 2 sisters living West of the mountains in Washington state and one living in Okanagon. I'll keep ya up-to-date, PS90, and anyone else that wants ta come along for the ride.

IMO, I would go for it. If you have an idea of actual small-town life is like in Washington, then Colville is just like any other town in this state. And Spokane is right there for any of the "big city necessities". Colville and Okanogan, for example, are very similar towns.

Thanks again.
Whatever happened to the proposal for a molybdenum mine on the reservation? I think they voted it down, but is that the end of the issue, or will industry try to find a way to get what they want?

I actualy have no idea. I remember that issue way-back-when, long before I lived here. 2006, maybe?

Since I've lived here, I haven't heard a thing.

I should note though, because a lot of people make this mistake (not saying you're making this mistake, Ruth ) about Colville The City vs. Colville the Reservation - Colville The City's Native American population is almost zero and the citizens of Colville/Kettle Falls area really have nothing to do with the Colville Reservation.

Omak, on the other hand, is the main "connection point" between the Tribe and the rest of the world. You will find that citizens in Omak are much more in-tune to what the Reservation is doing. Having lived in both places, I found that Omak is very "oriented" around the Tribe, while people in Colville The City really don't know anything about the Tribe or what they are doing.

Thanks, this was interesting and informative. I've never been out there, so I don't know, but I knew some Native people in Seattle who were from there, and the proposed mine was very controversial within the rez.
