I haven't specifically dieted, just have been eating more veggies, meat only rarely, and junk food only rarely, since Covid shutdown March 2020 which coincided with my retirement at the age of 60 (ie, I am not over 65 yet). I don't own a balance since my weight has been always stable and I have no reason to check it, but about two weeks ago I went to Europe for dad's funeral, noticed a balance in mom's bathroom, and stepped on it. It showed 106 lbs (mom says the balance is accurate), so it seems I have lost 8-9 lbs from pre-Covid, consistent with clothes feeling a little looser. But I haven't specifically tried to lose weight (I am 5'4"), just tried to switch to healthier food.

I am 70, and my weight has yo-yoed ever since I was about 35. It was never a problem because when my clothes became tight, I would diet and lose about two pounds a week. For the last four years, however, I have not been able to lose any weight no matter what I do. Believe me, I have tried everything (including Keto, intermittent fasting, etc.) except getting my caloric intake down to something like 900 calories a day -- and for two entire months, I was on a strict average caloric intake of 1,400 calories a day and a minimum of two miles of fast walking, and nothing -- no results at all. And last winter I had a severe virus (not COVID), and I ate almost nothing for a week, and yet did not lose any noticeable weight then, either.

I am in good shape otherwise -- I'm on no medication, blood pressure 130/80, and I can still hike on uphill and uneven trails.

Is it time to just accept that I will never again be a size 6/8? (I am now a size 10 and my waistbands are tight, whereas when I was younger, there was always about a 3" gap in my jeans and slacks waistband.)

I do NOT want to take any weight loss medication! I would rather lose weight in a natural way, but sacrificing eating good food -- especially around the holidays -- is not worth it when there is absolutely nothing to show for it, except for possibly not gaining any more weight.

Btw, my current doctor is almost useless as far as I'm concerned. We moved here three years ago, and he took zero interest in my health -- I guess I was too healthy? -- but I am stuck with him as there is not a large choice of doctors here. I had to search and wait to even find him.
I would say, yes, it is time to stop worrying about your weight. I’d love to be a size 10.

I’m 75 and eat like a bird, no snacks, low sugar, no convenience foods, and I am 30# more than I would like to be.

What are the body types you inherited? You can’t fight genetics. My grandmothers both got a bit plump as they got older. I firmly believe this is natures way of protecting us in old age….by giving us a bit of fat in case we get ill.

I lost 70 pounds, going from 195 pounds to 119. It took 14 months, and I have regained 5 pounds now that I eat more normally. I am fine with weighing 124. I am not sure I weighed that little most of the time when I was "thin."

I did not use medications but rather used WW's point system and online calculator. They are always having $10 a month specials although I think now they are also pushing meds. I tend to be obsessive when I do stuff like diets so I credit that with my success. It was unbelievably slow, though, for a person who never cheated.

Honestly, I wouldn't do it again. I wasn't unhealthy but rather just overweight. No arthritis, no diabetes, etc. I did have high blood pressure but I still do. It just isn't as high without meds. I don't look particularly better even though I wear much smaller clothes. Your body doesn't shrink in the ways you would like. But having done it, I am not going to deliberately gain it back. I still don't eat desserts, most carbs, fried foods, etc. I watch portions religiously. It is a lifestyle, as they say, but not the one I would have chosen. But I come from a family who has always struggled with weight. So I have to be determined.

I didn't mention my age. I was 68 when I did it. And 69 when I reached goal. I am now 70.

We changed up our eating and ramped up exercise. I have done it before. I have quite a bit of weight to lose so I think that is part of it. I weighed in at my doctors office on Tuesday and did a blood pressure check. I am going back on Monday to make sure I am on the right track- and she will weigh me again. So maybe my scale is showing it different.
And no I am not using medicine. Doctor's office gave us some parameters to follow. I have always done IF so we eat twice a day. And my doctor is fine with that.

No diet was needed, I lost and now maintain 160 pounds. You eat far less as you age.

My doctor told me you need 10% fewer calories for every decade.

Good for you. Big accomplishment. Hubby and I tried WW last year. It is a great program and we were going to the meetings every Saturday morning. Then life got busy. I do agree WW is focusing on using drugs to lose weight now. I first joined WW about 35 years ago and it is always evolving but I could never use the drugs. My brother in law is diabetic-lost 30 pounds when he went on Trulicity but he hated the side effects. He has kept the weight off.

Now we are working with our doctor on changing habits. So far so good but it is only 1 week in. But both hubby and I are pleased with our big weight loss last week. Yesterday was my birthday-I had a piece of cake and still lost some ounces from yesterday.

WW is utilizing the drugs? Wow! I noticed Marie Osmond is now advertising some arthritis drug on TV instead of (?) WW. I also noticed Kelly Clarkson, of singing the Wayfair jingle fame, looking about 70 pounds lighter in her most recent commercial. "Oh-oh-oh, Ozempic!" I wonder if this will drive both WW and gastric bypass surgeons out of business.
