IMHO~All the books that are in the Bible are exactly what God meant to be there. I totally believe in Divine Intervention.

Also, what about translations? The Bible wasn't originally written in English (of course) so did God do the translations as well? What about different translations and versions that use different words? Are they all written by God and literally true?

Yes, I believe that all the translations are correct and what God intended. For example, the King James Version and the Revised Standard Version may use a lot of Thees and Thous and Thys, but the meaning is exactly the same in the more modern versions. And before anyone corrects me, I know that those three words don't really exist as plurals.

Finally, different churches and dominations use different versions of the Bible, with different books. The Catholic Bible, is different from the Bible Luthrens use, which is different from the Bible Eastern Orthodoxes use, etc. I don't even want to get into the different churches in Egypt and Ethiopia! If the Bible is literally true and written by God, then which church has got the correct one?

The Catholic Bible is actually very much like the mainstream Protestant Bible. They make call one of their books "Apocalypse", but it's the same book as Revelations in the Protestant Bible. I think God cares more about us reading and obeying him then which name we call that book. Also, the Catholic Bible has books in it that are not in the Protestant Bible, but they are basically stories that happened years ago. They contain no commandments. or prophecies, or other things that I personally consider to be important. As far as the Bibles in Egypt, I'm not familiar with them. Could you give us info on them?

Sorry, I tried to use a different color, but it didn't work. Some of my responses are actually in your post.

How many threads have we had on this subject? Shouldn't we have a "merge topics" function with vBulletin?

It's not that the subject is so bad, it's the countless threads that seem to come up talking about the SAME THING over, and over, and over, and over again.

It would seem to me that some people are just trying to "spread the word", which to me is SPAM!

They're not selling widgets, pharmaceuticals, porn sites, or magazine subscriptions. They're selling religion.

THIS IS SPAM, and these topics should be deleted. They're repetitive, and serve no purpose besides advertising, or just plain inciting an argument..

That's my honest opinion.

Just wanted to let you know that I'm posting on this topic as a member. This isn't my section to watch. And you can guess that since I'm posting here, I personally don't consider it spam. I'm not trying to sell anyone a thing. I hope everyone has a Happy Easter.

I think I've weighed in on this thread enough, as well as the others indirectly.

There are a few people in here tonight posting religious spam. That's all I wanted to say.

...and what changed with the watch thing? Nm, don't want to violate TOS.

Anyway, carry on everyone, but keep in mind.....

The more you respect us atheists by not riddling the board with this stuff, the more we will respect you by not posting things about taxes, molestation, bigotry, fanaticism, etc.

Personally, digging back into the distant recollections of my faith days. You are not convinced, it is by arguing with others that you try to convince yourself.

Give it up, get yourself right with god, and others will see the light in you. I see an insecure angry person in Northsouth, not someone secure in their faith.

But, heck,, give me one piece of empirical evidence you are right!
But if you don't believe in God, greatbasinguide, how can you admonish people to "get right with God" you are not consistant.

Yap, I don't know what you mean by "religious spam". But this thread is regarding religion, you state the Christians are riddling the board with this stuff, what does that mean? Do you not think people have a right to start certain topics they want to discuss. People don't have to read them if they find them tiring.

And you yourself have made quite a few disparaging remarks labeling Christians-lets be fair. You obviously have some deep-seated disdain for the Christian conservatives, do you not? I think we can all work on respecting the other side. But I think it is very easy for people to take pot-shots at the Christian conservatives and refer to them as sheep, dumb, followers, irrational etc.

Respect is a two way street.
