Interesting, and thoughtful article of why religion continues to decline in the USA. Part of it is demographics, part of it is a better educated population that no longer needs mythology to explain things, and part of it is societal when many, if not most people, started feeling the large negative things religions were teaching about other human beings (LGBQ, misogyny, sex etc.) when in real life they knew gay people, men started seeing women as equals, and sex outside of marriage was seen as a norm, not wrong.

The USA is a outlier consisting of only 5% of the world population.
Religion is growing globally...Atheism is what's declining.
I know this bothers some...which is why they disingenuously note a place that goes against the overall trend.
There is no "slow death of Religion"...it's thriving.

Well, i says right in the OP that this thread is about the decline of religion in the USA.

Yes....and I noted The USA...and how it relates to the thread title.
Which is the typical mantra of the Religion haters (especially Christianity) to do this.
So, so, so many threads, with general title statements like "The Long Slow Death of Religion" or something like "The Fastest Gaining Religious Category: No Religion"...and similar.
They then note one of the few areas of the world where this is happening.
It would be like a forum for "Investments & Saving" that has a thread "Mutual Fund XYZ Losing Money"...but when you read the thread, it only notes one stock that makes up just 5% of the fund that lost money, while you know that XYZ Fund actually gained in value overall.
Anybody with any honesty and integrity would note the deception & dishonest skewing.
Of course...even though this is supposed to be a discussion "about Religion"...when I respond to these deceitful threads with a note of their deceptive claims "about Religion"...you always have to comment in support of the spurious claims. Because you don't like it either that Religion is gaining and Atheism & NonBelief are losing in this world.
Religion is dying in educated countries. It's thriving in countries where education is poor to non-existent. In the USA we're a highly educated bunch so it stands to reason religion would be dying here. In Africa, an extremely superstitious country filled with primitive beliefs it would thrive just as you might suspect.

This is not true.
As far as education and knowledge being an antidote and inoculant to God Belief and Religion...The Way of The World has long shown that to be untrue.
Throughout history...the greatest minds were Theist.
I have noted before---Belief is the "litmus-test" for the "best of the best" scientists. The VERY top echelon are/were Theist (with some exceptions, of course): Copernicus, Kepler, Newton, Bacon, Galileo, Descartes, Boyle, Faraday, Mendel, Kelvin, Planck, Brahe, Gilbert, Pasteur, Einstein, Lamatrie, Collins, etc, etc
And, lately...the areas of the world with the very best education, like Hong Kong, is where Religion was growing the fastest (when left alone by the Government)...which flies in the face of the rude and insulting implication that people believe in God and/or are Religious because of ignorance.
This has been debated before, many times...check this out: https://www.city-data.com/forum/42536616-post26.html

Try sticking to the subject as presented. It's about religion in the USA.

1) there is no solid evidence atheism is declining.
Muslim religion is growing through immigration around one million every ten years, Christians are growing, but the population is growing faster through the Pentecostalism movement at 35 k/day, but Christians are expected to decline some 15 percent in the next 30 years to the population of the USA and many believers would be converting to Pentecostalism...... Then education is pushing people away from religion as the education system is basically wicked and bias against the truth of God
Your thread title "The long slow death of religion.." appears to be in the same spirit of what Putin seeks and is doing to the Ukranian people.
You created the title for your thread and worded it in a most suffering way.
