Seems like this issue has reached the mainstream media as i just heard it talked about on a daily syndicated radio program , its online , and in the newspapers . I heard on the program that Atheists are complaining because 'its making them sick as they walk by the cross' , they find it offensive , and it shouldnt be a public display at a Memorial .
How do Atheists feel when they see Arlington National Cemetary on TV with rows of white crosses as far as the eye can see ? Does it make them feel nauseated ?!
Are these Atheists justified , or, it is yet another case of not wanting to be reminded what the cross represents ... what do you think ? No vitrol intended with this post...I just find it absurd what militant Atheists will come up with.
I find it odd that atheists are offended by various religious symbols. I mean do they want to force everyone to NOT BELIEVE as they choose. I fear that atheists are against a person's right to have and express his/her faith. Moderator cut: Orphaned
Are we justified in upholding the constitution?
Are we crybabies for understanding the constitution?
I always find this stuff hilarious. If someone tried to enact Jim Crow today, they would be seen as insane. But if a majority thinks gay people are second class citizens, that is totally ok? Why, because we're apprently a theocracy.
I honestly don't care, either, but it's the principle that matters. I highly doubt anyone would let the symbols of other religions be erected as well.
I don't get the rabid anti-religion atheists who protest cross memorials and grind "In god we trust" off all their nickels among other things.
It seems like too much effort to get bent out of shape over to me. It also seems to me that most atheists aren't that way either, just a very vocal minority who was usually personally wronged by some church or church person in their past.

Hindu victims (can't find a comprehensive list, but at least one) - Jupiter Yambem
Jewish Victims (no names, but a plausible number) - 324
Exactly. The victims were a cross-section: Christians, but also agnostics, atheists, Jews, Buddhists, etc. Representing them all with a cross is a travesty.

Are you referring to a cemetery in Arlington, Texas? The one in Arlington, Virginia, which we often visit, does not have rows of crosses. It has rows of headstones with all kinds of symbols on them. Most of them crosses, some Stars of David, and a bunch others that are unknown to me.

Arlington National Cemetery is hardly the same as Ground Zero.
Each grave at Arlington is private property and the person interred has the right to display the religious symbol of choice on their headstone. It's not all crosses - there are Muslim, Pagan, and other religions represented.
Ground Zero belongs to all of us as a nation and is not Christian holy ground.
And no, we don't need to be reminded of what the cross represents (hatred, bigotry, oppression, slavery, genocide, etc). We know our world and U.S. history well enough, thanks.

The cross is a pagan symbol. It was used by pagan religions a long time before Christianity took it over. So what do you think about worshipping a pagan symbol in your religion?
