He's likely gonna roll in November unless he pulls a Roy Moore, which is unlikely since he is somewhat intelligent.

His NE Ohio margins and him winning Hamilton County over "moderates" are signs.

The Rust Belt states have deindustrialized to a great extent, and are trending rightward. In 2020, Trump won Ohio by a big margin, and Indiana by a bigger one, and lost Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin by narrow margins. Biden only did well in Illinois, a state dominated by Chicago and its suburbs. Unions have lost much of their influence, and culturally conservative but economically liberal whites are alienated by the cultural liberalism of the current Democratic Party. The Democratic Party in the Rust Belt states, represented by Howard Metzenbaum, Bob Casey, and John Dingell, who were moderate to conservative on cultural issues, no longer tolerates much skepticism on social issues.

J.D. Vance is less of a hard core conservative than Josh Mandel. He is less likely to alienate moderate voters in the suburban areas of Cleveland, Columbus, and Cincinnati. Vance is of Scots-Irish descent, and the author of Hillbilly Elegy, a book discussing his Appalachian roots. He recently converted to Catholicism, and is married to a woman of Asian Indian background. Vance will be hard to defeat, as he is not a strident conservative like Mandel, or likely to make the mistakes that doomed Roy Moore and Christine O'Donnell.

Can’t say I was not disappointed with that. Was hoping for Timken or maybe Dolan since they were both less chimpy than the rest of the poo flinging clown show, but I did not vote because that would have made me a registered republican and I get too much of their junk mail already.

Too bad the Libertarian party does not have ballot status.

I'm sorry the rabble whose houses are cluttered with junk mail made a decision that was unpalatable to you.

I don't agree with everything Dolan stands for, but I could get behind him. He's a solid man, from a solid family, of at least some principle. I would go with Dolan before Trump-acolyte Vance (who doesn't know whether to love or hate Trump) and definitely over that wacko, high school kid who needs his Mama: Josh Mandel. Talk about a man who served in our military for a political talking point...

If you read JD Vances book, you would know he’s not a hard core conservative. He has lived in poverty, and among the poor in WV and understands that there are no absolutes. He comes by his beliefs honestly.
One of the surprising things in his book was that he is not against the title loan companies that most of us regard as predatory, because he saw first hand that for many of his neighbors, a short term loan was the difference in whether or not a man’s kids went hungry for the two days before he got paid.
I think that some don’t like Vance because he should be a prime democratic candidate, but he didn’t fall into the blame game, he rose above it.

Another inexperienced Republican candidate who will say and do anything to get elected. You can’t be serious about his “honesty”….he’s changed his tune completely over the past five years since his original brand of conservatism was no longer in favor. Look at his original comments on Trumpism.

He won't be liked in the Cleveland area w/ his comments about not caring about Ukraine being attacked by Russia...the Cleveland area has a very sizeable Ukranian population...several friends of mine are part of it.

And yet, Parma, where the Ukrainian folks live, was carried by Vance in the primary (the data is available on the Board of Elections website).

If you voted for Trump, I don't care if your roots are Ukrainian or Ugandan -- you're not voting for a Democrat in the general.

About 5k of Parma's 80k population is Ukrainian (6%). Outside of Parma there are not many Ukrainians. So we are talking about under 1% of the areas population. Knowing many ethnic Slavs regardless, they tend to not be the most progressive people around.
