Just to state some facts. NYC spends about 3x than even LA to provide services on a per capita basis. Claiming that NYC provides services on the cheap is a wild, wild statement.
Yes, it’s cheap for the 60% of city residents that don’t pay a dime in income taxes but that money is coming from somewhere else.
The city offers municipal services on the cheap? Maybe for the 60% of residents who pay $0 in income taxes.
Think about it. Either you’re claiming that NYC is Uber efficient at providing city services (which we all know is 110% not true) or those services are *cheap* for some because it’s paid for by others?
That's not what I said, you need to re-read my post

“$4.35 billion: How much the city has projected it will spend providing shelter, food, clothing and other services to asylum-seekers through the end of fiscal year 2024. This is a figure that Adams has repeatedly pointed to throughout negotiations as one of the big reasons cuts were necessary.”
Imagine a 1.4 million person city population budget not even covering this.
This is only a recent issue, however

It's not all about the population. I brought up the need to maintain bridges, tunnels, snow and ice removal, and also public transportation is nowhere nearly as extensive.
San Antonio spent 137 million fixing sidewalks. Every large city has their unique expenses.
You asked for a million plus city with a cheap living. San Antonio fits that. Why can’t nyc do it?
All that matters is per capita spending. On a per capita basis, NYC is a wild, wild, wild spender. Furthermore, it’s not like we have pristine infrastructure, amazing schools, efficient city services, etc. NYC is literally in worse shape than many other sizable cities in the US.
Much of the money is flushed down the drain on expenses everyone’s well aware of.

That is nothing . NYC probably spends that much repaving 300 city blocks (around 14 miles).
