My husband and I are looking for a great 55 and over community in or near Myrtle Beach, SC. Does anyone have any suggestions? We plan on travelling there soon to find a home to retire to. We're from Maryland and would like to find a place where the real estate taxes, etc. aren't as high as they are in the Northeast. Plus we are looking to find a place where we can relax and be happy. Please help! Thanks for any suggestions.
My parents relocated to Myrtle Trace (Burning Ridge Golf Course). it's off of 501, they love it.
501 is a nightmare though, during the season. Although it's the gateway to EVERYTHING.
544, runs behind Myrtle Trace... parallel with 501. It's a nicer drive to rt 17.
I'm in Myrtle Trace 2-3 times week... I really like it there (for them) Very convenient for the residents.
All of the Grand Strand is a 55+ community. Just half-kidding. You'll find that most neighborhoods are at least 50% retirees, spread out all over the place. Taxes will probably be cheaper but be sure to get a feel for homeowners insurance. It can be exorbitant and hard to get, particularly if you're looking east of the intracoastal waterway.
You might want to take a look at Lakes at Litchfield. Down on the South end, it's a little quieter and has a lot to offer. It's a "senior living" community but supports all ages. We have some very active friends who moved there early because they wanted someone else to handle all the maintenance and yardcare, and figuring they would end up there eventually anyway.
I have to say.. not knowing what your parameters are... I *highly* recommending looking at Lakeside Crossings, which is also off Hwy 501. Feel free to Dm with any relative questions. Be glad to help you.
Before you buy a house in Myrtle Beach check out thoroughly the cost of insurance on your home. We do get hurricanes here, and depending on exactly where you choose to live the insurance cost can be higher than your house payments.
Even if you're buying the house for cash, check out the insurance. We're overdue for a big hurricane.
In a more quiet and peaceful area of Myrtle Beach.
Spring Forest, Live Oak(s), Captains Cove......all in the Murrells Inlet area. A couple of others are down 17 heading towards Litchfield........
