The downturn in the economy is truly widespread. As baylovers said, there are folks all over that are experiencing hard times. While it is worse in some areas than others, times are tough all over.
I saw on the news tonight that they informed the Chap 11 court that the owners are going to place Hard Rock Park up for sale. No price announced. Anyone want to chip in with me?
It's not just Myrtle Beach... I have family & friends in NY and Fla. The same thing is happening all over.
We're leaving this week to visit family in South Carolina. We decided to spend a weekend in North Myrtle Beach (to us North Myrtle is a LOT cleaner town AND beach than Myrtle) and got online to find a room. Love the off season rates! We're staying a weekend at the Best Western Ocean Sands Resort for $118 for the weekend, for 4 adults and 2 kids! Really looking forward to it!
I wouldn't take it if you gave it to me. The place is a money pit. I remember reading the Myrtle Beach Online forums while it was being built and the locals on there were saying it wouldn't make it 6 months and it would end up being one large parking lot. They were right. They need to turn it back into outlets. I would happily spend my money there!
The next step is for a gaming group to hook up with the Indians that own the outlet property in front of HR and bundle it all together. Gaming for the adults and a park to keep the kids happy. Anyone want to put odds on that being the final outcome?

I am so glad my dad taught me to live below my means!! Things really are tough all over and I guess it may seem worse when one lives in a place that pretty much depends entirely on tourist $$ and sees a bunch of empty hotels. I love Myrtle Beach and i hope it gets better.
The economy is not improving. This is already one of the most difficult times to find a job and all those that were displaced bye the HRP closure.. well, I don't know what they would be doing now.
As I stated previously, the economy, in general, is in bad shape all around. Myrtle Beach is not immune to this unfortunately.
I'm hoping and praying that things do begin to get better now that we at least know who the President Elect is... (rolleyes). If it doesn't get any better, perhaps I'll just stop paying my bills and get in line for the gubbment handout(s).
Has anyone heard what has happened to all the displaced workers since the Hard Rock closed?
Is the economy improving there at all or is it still heading the wrong direction?
The economy improving? Where have you been the last few weeks? LOL.
