I second Teddyterp's opinion about LaPlaya. Great food!
This is the only restaurant that I have ever been to that inspired me to go home, sign up for and write a yelp review.....definitely the worst Mexican food I have ever had lol A different person came by our table to do every thing, seat us, take order, drop off food etc. I have no clue who our waiter was. Food came out quick but was horrible, this is also the only restaurant I have ever told them I was not going to be paying lol
Maybe isolated incident? I dunno, never went back lol
We would usually go to to Habaneros because of the deck.....food there is still pretty generic and plain but sitting out on the deck is nice.
If you want good Mexican food go to Santi's for more traditional or Taco Boy for non traditional......but they are in Charleston
Everyone I am friends with likes La Playa. Sorry you had a bad experience there. I don't blame you for not wanting to go back.
You might want to rethink Habaneros, though. This was part of their last DHEC inspection report:
"Habanero’s in Pawleys Island had a score of 82 for problems including a dusty wall vent, “food products such as onions, cheese, lemons stored on the floor,” and “improper cooling, hot food products stacked in such a way not to allow air flow, pans deeper than 4 inches, with lids. 6 half hotel pans with creamy cheese made with milk @ 51-58F after 24 hours of cooling. – Voluntary discard of product.”
YUK!
And here's a link to the full report if anyone is interested:
LOL!! Vrexy, y'all are down South now. Your standards are way too high! There have been mornings after Habaneros when I wished I were dead, but we've been eatin' there for years and their food has never killed me. That's why their margaritas are so cheap. The tequila takes care of any random germs that might be in the vicinity...

Hahaha! I actually have eaten at Habaneros before and really liked their food, but that was before I saw the inspection report........
Must be the nurse in me, but I have a thing about germs and cleanliness! I do hope that they can clean up their act in time for the next inspection, because as I said, I did enjoy my meal.
If you're right about the tequila, I shouldn't have any problem, since that is my drink of choice.

Score of 82 .... Hmmmmm that's like a B and the honor role.
I myself do enjoy La Play but have a few friends that won't go near it and rave about Habenaros. I will make sure to steer clear of the cream cheese and dust vents.
Yeah I always steer clear of those reports, kind of like dont ask dont tell lol I obviously liked Habenaros better but would say it is mediocre as far as mexican goes. Drinks are cheap though. Always seemed to me that most restaurants on the grand strand rely on high tourist turnover and not repeat business. I never really found more than 2 or 3 places that we returned to in 2 years. I found a lot more restaurants that I liked in Charleston.....its just far away.
I did like Bistro 217.....hopefully they had a clean bill of health lol
Scotty!!! You're still there? I thought you would have moved by now....
Bistro 217 seems to have limited hours....its always closed when we've been by. Did try the Island Deli, though its been a couple of years ago, and we enjoyed them at lunch time,.
Hate that Roz's will be closing before we had a chance to try there.
Are there any eateries that aren't along 17 that we may want to try?

Scotty - I was wondering the same thing about your move. Guess you are still here. Hope you are liking it better......
Busydesk - Bistro 217 is closed on Sundays, but open every other day for lunch from 11 - 4 and dinner from 5 - 10. Maybe you most often drive by there on Sundays?
Lots of great restaurants that are not on 17. Not sure what you are looking for, but Croissants is one you might want to try sometime. Not in PI, but worth the drive to MB. Croissants Bistro and Bakery
