We are going to be down in a few weeks and I was thinking that Nosh has been open long enough now that there might be some of you who could offer an opinion. We enjoyed meeting one of the sous chefs at the PI Food and Wine Gala and thought we would give the restaurant a try. It looks like its going for a more upscale vibe, and I'm not sure that's what I'm looking for when in PI.

The food is good and the atmosphere is fantastic! Yes, totally worth the drive to Pawleys. Not upscale at all, completely laid back. Make sure you sit outside.
We haven't been there. We were excited when it was announced that Nosh was going to be run by the same chef who previously operated one of the finest restaurents Pawleys has ever seen, but suddenly he was out of the picture.
A couple friends have eaten there. Both were fine with it but neither raved. One thought the atmosphere was better than the food. TripAdvisor's reviews are pretty high, but the vast majority are written by locals who have never written any other reviews. That's always a warning sign the reviews are being padded, so I don't put much value on 'em. If you decide to eat there, let us know what you think.

PawleysDude, Nosh was opened and is run by Tom Cerasero a local urologist. The exterior seating is wonderful but I think he'd be better off putting his medical education back to better use and hiring a good GM.
The chef you speak of had some sort of freak out deal with Tom and just disappeared for a couple of days and went off on a bender.
Yeah, I know the story. What originally created the buzz among locals was that David Badari was opening Nosh. <Old Link> Before moving to Greenville a number of years ago, he ran the Community House in PI, perhaps the best restaurant PI has ever seen. After he dropped out of the picture, a lot of the local interest went away, and Nosh became just one more upscale restaurant trying to cut it in the Hammock Shops. "Artful dining", Really??

Did you hear Louis Osteen is coming back? He's opening/partnering in the old Bumz space with the owners of that strip mall. Lawsy he's like a cat always landing on his feet.

LOL! No, I hadn't heard that. I knew he didn't last long in Las Vegas and wherever it was he went next, but I thought I recalled he was headed back to Chasn. I hope he's got a good mgr this time so all he needs to do is cook.

muonic pondered: A restaurant in the Hammock Shops (plural)?
Hmmmmm, it has been awhile since you visited, hasn't it? The Hammock Shop is still front & center, but there's a nice spread of individual shops scattered amongst the live oaks. It's been around forever, but I guess it's gradually grown over the years. There's been a restaurant in there for a long, long time. Back in the day, Pawleys Island Inn was there for years, but recently there's been a string of restaurants open and close in the same building. Roz's Rice Mill is also in there and does a good business serving good food at a reasonable price in a casual setting. It's still a neat place to visit. I'm telling ya', it's time you come on back for a visit.
Hmmm....doesn't sound much like the hammock shop I remember as a kid.
The Hammock Shops are a group of upscale shops in Pawleys Island that have been there for at least since the 1970s and one of the shops is the famous Pawleys Island Hammock Shop. I remember them as a kid.
LOL. I guess the last time I was at "THE" Pawleys Island Hammock Shop was in the late 1960's. I remember it as a free standing building, or maybe more like a converted house, with nothing else around it. Of course, my memory has faded somewhat over the years, so I could be wrong. Having a few good restaurants around is always OK, though.
Perhaps I'll make a visit this spring. There are many places in the low country I would like to check out for possible retirement locations. Pawleys Island, Charleston, Georgetown, McClellanville, or perhaps just out in the sticks, somewhere. Or maybe I'll just move to Las Vegas.
