It's a shame that the local business community didn't recognize the impact 94.9 had. This is the same situation that the old Beach, Boogie and Blues station had many years ago. Currently I live in Okinawa, Japan and was a regular listener to 94.9, even 6000 miles away. Someone needs to fill the void soon. Good luck beach music lovers.

A salute across to the sea to you, Col. We caught a beach music band Friday night, and their lead singer said he'd gotten the word that 94.9 would be back soon. A whole lot of us are countin' on it.
From what I've heard, 94.9 won't be back...the new station, with Ray Scott and gang is going to be another number on the dial.....right now, 94.9 is playing country music, and that will probably continue. The new station may premiere during SOS, April 7-18...
I hope it will go online, because I miss hearing the local SC ads, traffic, weather, etc...up here in VA!!!
Some good news for "Surf" fans. 94.9 will be returning to the airwaves very soon. Our goal is to have it up and running before the end of the current SOS Spring Safari now going on. Installation and testing of equipment is taking place now. Will announce air date as soon as this is complete. It will be "The Surf". It will be at 94.9 FM, and it will be Carolina Beach Music.
While I have no emotional ties to 94.9 and have no idea what "beach music" is, I can sympathize and relate.
In my "area", we lost a lot of our past due to change. But, due to the advent of the internet, we can re-connect and relive those memories. As a matter of fact, I'm listening to a song that most of you Myrtle Beach people may have NEVER heard before. It came out in 1978 and was a big hit here.
Anyway, I plan to be a big part of the Myrtle Beach area once I retire from "Yankeeville". One thing I promise to you natives are....I will NOT invade your homestate and attempt to "change" it to my liking. I will adopt the way you folks do things. The only thing I may not be able to change is my Brooklyn accent. That's something you'll simply have to live with !!
So COOL! Right now, I'm listening to an AM station....haven't tuned into AM in YEARS!
