Oh my! This is a death in the family.

Mayor Rhodes and his local cronies wasn't enough in killing the Pavillion.....and now, the "sound" and the heartbeat of beach music is dead.

What we all so lovingly and affectionately referred to as the "Redneck Riveria" (and a way of life) has passed into history. All the remnants of my cherished memories, gone.

Myrtle Beach is now nothing more than just another small southern town with too much traffic......which my generation helped to build.

There is no reason for me to hang around Myrtle Beach any longer. It's gone.....and so am I.

I'm so sad to the point of being heartbroken over losing this station. 94.9 was also my connection to the beach. I loved listening to this station online, and I always began my search for it around Florence as I was driving to the beach. I feel so sad for the whole beach music community. For those of us who love beach music, we have to keep demanding the type of music played on "The Surf". We can't let it die. I think of people like Billy Smith, who was such an ambassador for beach music, and my heart just aches that his station has signed off the air.

I've been listening to Carolina Beach Radio online thru Live365.com....it's not the same, but it's better than what I can get at home....we have NO beach music of any kind within listening distance.....country stations galore, and "oldies", but not "beach"!!!!!

Keep the faith. Rumors floating 'round town are that the owner of WNMB is negotiating to buy the Surf with plans to maintain the same or similar format.

I, too, have heard that they are trying to straighten out the "legalities" and get the Surf back up and running....rumor has it that Ray Scott would have some sort of management role...
Keeping my fingers crossed!!!!
