As a livelong Morgantowner the failure to build the west run bypass is the cities/states biggest failure at improving infrastructure that I've ever witnessed. That would have eleviated 80% of the traffic nightmare that occurs on Patterson, chestnut ridge, 705, mile ground. Now that there are a gazillion townhomes in that valley it would never happen. That is not the sign of a progressive city.
With all the gluttony of student housing outside city limits (i.e Lofts, Copper Beach, The Ridge) I'd say tear em all down and make room along the Mon River Trail. This is sorely needed still.
They're all half empty now anyway. WVU's building pulled half of those away from West Run so now we have half empty complexes on West Run as well as half empty complexes downtown
Even an updated two lane road would be better then what it is now. As a kid, my parents used to park off Pineview for games. We'd take West Run over there. I remember there being hardly anything off that country road, but over the years it exploded. Unfortunately the road itself never changed.

Same. That was always the quick, back way into town on gamedays
The real selling point of the West Run bypass was its ability to get people from the Peirpont exit and locations between it and town to star city in a couple of minutes instead of the 20-45 minutes it takes now. Look at any map of morgantown and it's clear that the bypass would've comepleted the 3rd side of the 2-sided triangle that currently exists between interstates 68 and 79. Imagine going down the hill from Glenmark Center and ending up at the star city near sheetz in 3 or 4 minutes. And the result of all this would be far less traffic on the mile ground and chestnut ridge road area.

If this would have been done and 705 directly to the highway (like proposed a while back) traffic would be completely different around here. Such a shame.
Are developers required to fix the roads they damage?
The city and county needs to make it a requirement that all developers must repair the roads that their construction equipment damage while working on their respective projects. West Run would look like the autobahn if we had someone like this on the books when that area of town was developed
