My understanding is these locations were picked up in bankruptcy court. The local KFC franchiser apparently made some big management error (not culinary). Does nicely clear the scene of competition for Popeye's though.

I just realized that the KFC on Highway 10 in Anoka is still a KFC, so that must not have been part of the same franchiser. I'll definitely check out the Popeyes in Coon Rapids once it gets around to opening.

The Brooklyn Park Popeye's location opened on March 7th at 8025 Brooklyn Boulevard next to West Broadway zip code 55428 while the locations: in Crystal on Bass Lake Road at West Broadway; Coon Rapids on 124th Avenue in Riverdale Commons near Round Lake Blvd and Main St; in Maplewood on Beam Avenue at White Bear Avenue (across from Maplewood Mall) are all supposed to open sometime between now and late May.

In addition to those four Popeye's, the remaining nine locations are set to open, as golfgal read and subsequently posted are scheduled to open by late July. Keep us all posted on when the location near you opens their doors. I heard the Brooklyn Park opening that first Thursday in March brought people who waited in line for hours to place their order and police were directing traffic. Those who were there said it reminded them when Krispy Kreme opened in Maple Grove eleven-years ago.

I drove past the Hopkins location last weekend and it looked like they have not even started working on it.

My sister ate at one of the new Popeyes and she loved it, she now has a craving for it. She said some locations need police presence to regulate the traffic flow.

They are probably pretty spicy compared to standard Minnesota fare. The ones in Louisiana are even spicier.

I eat at Popeye's occasionally. The quality of the food really depends on the quality of the franchisee. The one closest to my home is generally run by unsupervised teenagers and generally has poor service.

When the chicken is immediately from the fryer, it is excellent.

Take a pass on the catfish as it is awful.

They will NOT serve A&W root beer as their theme is Louisiana Fresh - and Barq's Root Beer was developed in the French Quarter of New Orleans.

Anybody know the calorie count of any Popeye's combo? Seriously, I've been shocked when I look up fast food combos. They can go 2,000 calories and more than a day's worth of fat and carb. Which could explain how that guy gained 40 pounds living off fast food.

Decided to look it up. They make you add it up, but a breast, wing, biscuit, and red beans and rice add up to 1140 calories and 60 grams of fat. Now if a person bothered to check, there are menu items that can cut that down. Question is who that would make Popeye's a stop would have that as a priority. I realize now I'm probably low on the calories because I forgot the sugary drink. Make it 1370 with that.

The KFC in South Saint Paul is closed and the signage has been stripped, but nothing else has been done. All KFCs that I have seen to be converted to Popeye's, at the very least, have been painted the Popeye's colors.

Does anybody know if there are plans for the SSP KFC?
