Just noticed the KFC at University and Lexington in St Paul has been vacated. Seems like a likely location for another Popeye's.

There was another article about this in one of the newspapers the other day. It sounds like they are only going to open a few Popeye's to start and see how they go. The KFC building in our town has a For Sale Sign in the yard.

The KFC in Coon Rapids has changed over and looks just about ready to reopen.

Didn't think to look for a for sale sign when I went by the Lex & Univ site.

Good observation golfgal! It would probably be a good idea for Popeye's Louisiana Kitchen's to open a few locations first to see how they will do first before openning a large number. That strategy is what both: "Five Guys Burgers and Fries" and "Smashburger" have done in the Twin Cities-openning only a few at a time as they have both now just entered this market.

Many restaurants which are very successful throughout the country have tried and failed in the Twin Cities and throughout Minnesota resulting in either closing all their Minnesota locations or only leaving one store or restaurant open. Some examples being: Dunkin' Donuts, Golden Corral Buffet, CiCi's Pizza Buffet, Krispy Kreme Donuts, 7-Eleven (all of which have completely pulled out of MN)

Other examples include: Checkers Drive Thru (which has closed half their Twin Cities locations; Brooklyn Center is the only one left), Sonic Drive-In (which has been slowly closing locations here, West St. Paul and Cambridge) and Cracker Barrel (which only has one location remaining, that would be Lakeville )

Some staples of Midwest dinning have never even attempted to enter Minnesota like "Steak 'n Shake" or "Bob Evans" restaurants.

Another factor which Popeye's Fried Chicken must consider is that Chick-Fil-A is seeking city council approval in some Twin Cities suburbs to open locations in those communities.

Keep us all posted when the various Popeye's locations and the new Chick-Fil-A 's open; thank you to those of you who have let us know when a KFC location has closed and the building has gone up for sale.

Steak n Shake and Bob Evans are truly awful though, so I don't miss their presence in MN. You're not missing anything, I promise! Both are a poor man's Perkins.

CiCi's and Golden Corral are pretty bad too. Krispy Kreme was okay once in a while but was generally overrated.

Pizza Ranch is making inroads in the south metro which, for the life of me, I don't understand. It's one of those places you go because you're in the middle of nowhere and there isn't anything else nearby besides fast food and maybe a dive bar, not someplace that's worth going to when there are better options.

We liked Old Country Buffet for the same reason when I was that age, so I guess I can understand the quantity over quality aspect of it.
