I just looked at some of the city and state averages for Hallandale
and they seem to fall behind in the household income section vs. the state average.
The city average is $37K and the state average is $47K.
Hallandale is ok. Some parts are kind of run down- and covered in strip clubs, pawn shops, and Checkers. The Miramar end isnt too bad- the closr you live to 95 though- the worse off you are as far as safety goes.
Does Hallandale still have a fairly large retirement community (meaning, in condos between the coast and US 1)? That might speak some to the "disparity" in income.
I lived in Hallandale Beach for a couple of years. It seems fairly safe although there was a man shot outside of Padrino's restaurant during that timeframe. Robbery, I think. There are a lot of seniors. That might be why the income level is lower. The professionals there seem to be mostly docs catering to the senior population. I agree that the areas near 95 are not so nice.
East Hallandale is fine and a nice deal right now compared to other areas by the beach. There are actually quite a few restaurants and shops in the area, and you are convenient to Aventura/Hollywood etc. There are a lot of retirees, which does keep the median income low, but the area is growing younger because of it's location and relatively reasonable price. BUT, basically anything west of US1 is best avoided. The further away from 95, the better, but truth be told, by the time you are in a better area once you are west of 95, you are in Miramar, not Hallandale.
