As you could imagine this thread is about my letting out my frustration at Americans who are shocked/offended when instead of offering my hand to shake, in the case of girl I kiss them on the cheek and with guys I give them a Hug.I mean we live in Miami this is not the North where I could understand they would consider it fresh(I got slapped by a white girl in gainsville on my first time there), but here if Miami they should be used to it by now. Non Hispanic and Hispanic americans alike please comment.

I don't mind...

Well, maybe I mind another guy hugging me.

well in a business setting I would offer my hand to both a women and a man but i'm talking about in informal setting like meeting someone at a bus stop the movies or at the beach. it just seems like they make it a big deal about nothing.

How well do you know these people? If they're just acquaintances, maybe it's awkward for them if you try to hug/kiss them on the cheek. I'm Hispanic but I'd feel a bit uncomfortable if an acquaintance tried to greet me with a hug.

I don't mind, but then again many of my friends have Cuban relatives. One of my friends does it and is non-hispanic, but then again he is gay. Some of his friends like to hug too, which is fine. I would think the only reason a stranger would want to get close is to pick your pocket though.

I can't stand it when someone gets the stupid idea of touching me. I don't want their germs or diseases.

I've never met any guy who was shocked or offended by a hug. Awkward maybe, but never offended. The girls' situation I can understand. For many girls kissing, even on the cheek, is an expression of affection, so if they receive one from a guy they aren't comfortable with it can be seen as an unwanted advance.

It is not that people are shocked by your hugging and kissing nonsense, it is just that they find it lame and very annoying.
