Is that the plan? 10-20 years from now 2mill in the city itself? The metro 3-5 times larger? It's already over-crowded as is, I can't imagine what it would be like if they continue building more and more and more condo's. It would be a nightmare to say the least if Miami ended up turning into another Manhattan, over crowded, overpopulated, too many people. What do you think it will be like 10-20 years? I sure hope it's not on the road to be the next Manhattan..

It will be more dense, the population should be higher but nothing that drastic. Manhattan? No, maybe on its way resembling Chicago. Miami does need an upgrade in Public transit. It needed it yesterday. But Miami is not on its way to Manhattan for a long time. I don't know how you could think the population of the city limits could more than double in 20 years.

Not within 10-20 years. What you see today in Manhattan has been over 100 years in the making. 100 years ago Miami was nothing really.

Will Miami proper be growing more and at a rapid pace? Absolutely. If density isn't your thing you might want to head down to FL City or Homestead and buy up land while you still can.

Well 100 years ago Miami was growing at a rapid pace. 1912... Miami is the most impressive city in the US for its age. 200-300 hundred years behind DC, Boston, New York etc..

Miami proper added 1000 ppl per square mile in the last decade. If it's lucky, it might add 2000 ppl per square mile in this decade. If so, it will still end the decade under 500,000. There's just not enough land to push Miami to 2 million anytime soon. Even at San Francisco's density, we are only talking about just over 600,000 in the city proper. More than triple that??? Forget about it!

At a density of Manhattan, Miami Proper can well house over 2 million people. The City of Miami also includes Little havana, Flagami, Little Haiti, Coconut grove, etc...

Now, If you mean DOWNTOWN... then yes, 2 million people is way out of proportion..

Map of Miami:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
In U.S. land surveying under the Public Land Survey System (PLSS), a section is an area nominally one square mile.
I used a ruler to measure a Miami section in google earth. Most sections are not exactly one square mile, but the are very close to that number.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
If we apply the same idea 3 times more within Miami boundaries, we end up at a population of 1,680,000... however, to be more realistic we'll have to lower the number... A drastic cut of 680,000 would still give us the 1 million mark.

And that's just a portion of Miami....
