About some points I agree with OP, but does anyone get a tinge of egotism here?

You must not get out much. Not everyone who speaks Spanish is the same! You're entirely ignoring the region of the world represented by the third OFFICIAL language in Miami-Dade County.

Bro, NYC drivers ain't bad. If you were from LA or DC, fair enough, but...

I honestly can't wait to take what I'm here for and move on to a real city.
Presumably someone of your status has the means to move on to a "real city" at any time.

My friend from New York stuck it out for about 5 years commuting from Brickell (the only part of Miami he could stand). Eventually he moved back to New York City.
I think many come here almost expecting a tropical New York, when that isn't the case. Miami is nothing like NYC. It is not a 24 hour city and isn't as cosmopolitan (what city can really compete with NYC in that sense). Miami is much newer, much more car oriented and much more transient. In NYC, you'd probably find some sort of niche and some sort of crowd to fit into, even if you considered yourself a total freak. Miami isn't as diverse in that sense, nor can you expect it to be.

As for museums, aren't they building a brand new science museum?

MiaSci – New Miami Science Museum -

This will be a monster, if it gets built. I think Miami would also benefit from a large, maybe world class art gallery.

glasvegas: there really aren't any subcultures here to speak of. no goths, emos, punks, ravers, etc.
you either rely on your family or know some people you grew up with if you grew up here.
most everyone else is on their own. this sucks from a supporting standpoint but the solitude of miami in some ways i value because in southern california i was extremely distracted and it was all extremely expensive. here i feel like i could study what i want, do what i'm interested in but my attention isn't being torn a thousand directions all at once. in socal i felt like i could taste/sample everything but never really eat it.

No you didn't. At least, not really. Your list of things to gripe about is proof of that.

Don't get me wrong, though. I agree with many of the things on the list but what I'm saying is that whether or not you have a good experience in southeast Florida has a lot more to do with your own attitude than you might realize. Miami is what it is, and it makes no sense at all to compare it to New York City. In fact, the more you keep comparing it to NYC the more disappointed you'll become. You might find that it is more pleasant to spend your time meeting people who like the same things that you do and making new friends to hang out with that way. There are plenty of places to go to and things to do in Miami. You just have to know where to look. When you have good friends to hang with and things to do you tend not to notice the negative stuff so much.

the two people who talk like that - new yorkers and californians.

"well, i'm from california"
"well in california we.."
That was me back in 2005.

the same applies to new yorkers who talk the same way.

both californians and new yorkers are coming from parts of the country that are of the most advanced developed highest quality of living possible in this country.

ANYWHERE ELSE YOU GO YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED

You just have to determine whether the positives outweigh the negatives and if they don't then you move.

I will admit you dont make alot of friends here because for the most part you don't have anything in common with people here. That's just the way it is.

I agree too. But what does this accomplish?
It is what it is.

I agree there is a tinge of egotism here and for the fact that I don't trust posters with just 5 posts bashing a city, sounds like a troll who was formerly banned.
