The following chart is a New York City travel survival tool. Drop the last figure of the address you are looking to find, divide by 2, and add or subtract according to the chart below. The answer is the nearest numbered cross street. (This formula does not apply to Broadway below 8th Street because of the many streets with names instead of numbers) .

You know, that's not what I meant at all.

I'm picky when it comes to urban sighting, and grids pretty much don't make it for me. Why? There are probably two or three reasons, but I haven't dome much thinking about it... I just know that it get's rid of the many things that a city could offer in terms of aesthetics.

After living in London, I appreciate the grid system anywhere, that darn place is screwy with its roads. There is not one single straight road in the city! And they change the name of the road every 100 meters it seems. I learned to go by landmarks, forget street names.

Grids, cannot ever get lost!

Downtown La Jolla has a penchant for screwy streets, running into all odd angles. You can live in San Diego for years and when you take some of the odder streets, it often seems very illogical where you end up, considering the path you took. La Jolla seems to have mastered the art of bending streets into four dimensional space in a way that would make H.P. Lovecraft proud!

I could get used to Miami's grid system.
