Right after the the courts ruled that states have to issue concealed carry permits , Hochul put in so many restrictions that pretty much the only place you can legally carry is in your own backyard

the courts made nyc loosen up the restrictions as well as if no sign is posted about entering with a concealed weapon then it’s assumed it’s okay

Homeless shelters, runaway homeless youth shelters, family shelters, shelters for adults, domestic violence shelters, and emergency shelters, and residential programs for victims of domestic violence;

Residential settings licensed, certified, regulated, funded, or operated by the department of health;
In or upon any building grounds, owned or leased, of any educational institutions, including schools of higher education, public schools, private schools, and charter schools;

Any place, conveyance, or vehicle used for public transportation or public transit, subway cars, train cars, buses, ferries, railroad, omnibus, marine or aviation transportation; or any facility used for or in connection with service in the transportation of passengers, airports, train stations, subway and rail stations, and bus terminals;

Any establishment issued a license for on-premise consumption of alcohol or cannabis;

Any place used for the performance, art entertainment, gaming, or sporting events;

Any location being used as a polling place;”
Any public sidewalk or other public area restricted from general public access for a limited time or special event that has been issued a permit for such time or event by a governmental entity, or otherwise subject to specific, heightened law enforcement protection, or has otherwise had such access restricted by a governmental entity, provided such location is identified as such by clear and conspicuous signage;
Any gathering of individuals to collectively express their constitutional rights to protest or assemble;

The area commonly known as Times Square, which has been defined by the New York City Counsel as the area bound by Eighth Avenue, Fortieth Street, Sixth Avenue, and Fifty-third street, and the area bound by Ninth Avenue, Fortieth Street, Eighth Avenue, and Forty-Eighth Street

Basically they’d be stationed in places where more than likely they would not encounter any nonsense.
It’s more like a deterrent. During some crazy these gunslingers would be at the gates of a LIPA substation or even a train station or something, so that any bad guys would be like “yo forget about doing that place, they got a bunch of crazy MAGA itchy trigger finger white boys watching the joint”. While the cops are out dealing with the actual real dirty, these guys would be baby sitting other places where there is no action, but maybe possibly the potential for some action. I think that’s what it is. I could be wrong though.

what regulations did they loosen, besides having a sign.

they put back in many areas they were trying to restrict but the biggest were the signs ..

making it prohibited to enter an establishment unless the signs said you could enter with a firearm was reversed to its assumed you are allowed unless a sign says no .

they also were told they can not ask for social media passwords as part of the application process as well
