People imply what? That schools with a higher percentage of Asians or Jews are better? This is objectively a fact. That doesn’t mean other schools are bad. A Lexus is nicer than a Toyota. That doesn’t mean Toyotas are bad cars. On the other hand, if one can afford a Lexus, why get a Toyota?

I, on the other hand, can’t afford a Lexus. That’s why I’m looking for a Toyota Venza which is essentially a Lexus in disguise.

Asian along with whites. Asian only areas, like Flushing, are far from nice nor do they have good schools. It's the Asians that have moved into formerly all white hoods where they combine forces that make the area decent.

Rember that Asians are actually the poorest racial group in NYC. Just look at the massive numbers of bottle collectors. I'm talking off the boat, not Asian Americans of course.

I have owned both. A Lexus is substantially better than a Toyota in all aspects. Mainly the interior materials, the ride and most importantly they are pin drop quiet inside. The other poster I have been in a Vezna it’s nice a new rx350 would blow that thing away.

I think the education point is lost on many non Asians/Jews.

Let’s call it what it is. For many of the old guard (Italians/Irish) on LI a “good”school simply meant that their kids went to a school with few, if any, non-whites. Why? Because for most of them, their goals for their kids was to graduate HS and get a city/county job, union trades, etc. . One doesn’t need a particularly rigorous K-12 education for that.

For (many) Asians/Jews, the goal is almost always MDs, lawyers, CPAs, CFAs, engineers, bankers, etc. so the desire was always for a more academically rigorous (competitive) school.

That doesn’t mean that there werent Irish/Italian families who also valued a rigorous education but there were never enough of them to make a difference.

The schools in Flushing used to be good but look at the demographics now. Cardozo used to be a great school too. But when they began to bus students in, the schools began their demise. Which is prob why Francis Lewis flipped to being better then Cardozo. It is also high percentage Asian but still ranks high - so Asian only isn't the issue...

Those bottle collectors are retired, and probably millionaires - don't be so quick to judge what you don't know. That said, what is reported as income is different from wealth.

Asians aren't the poorest racial group in NYC, please at least cite a reputable study if you make such a ridiculous claim. Since you didn't; Hispanic, then Black and then Asian based on most recent studies.

I’m well aware there are better materials etc used in a Lexus (of course). But the rx350 still nothing more than a dressed up Highlander with a different body kit and nicer interior.,Same engine too. Heck in Japan it’s even still called a Toyota!

Asians have the second highest median income under whites in NYC:

BUT the Asian poverty rate in NYC is high and has grown including the metro area suburbs and is in fact worse than the city average.

https://gothamist.com/news/nearly-on...in-2020-report

And No those people in rags collecting bottles in 20 degrees with a shopping cart are not retired millionaires doing it for fun. Get real.

"Researchers found that 23% of Asian New Yorkers lived in poverty in 2020, comparable to the rate of poverty experienced by Black and Latinx New Yorkers, and higher than the citywide average of 16% of all New Yorkers."
“Usually, many people think Asians are better off economically than Blacks and Latinos, but our data show, no, that's not true,” Gao said. “So that's something that needs to be known and to be really digested and understood a bit.”
The poverty rate of Asian New Yorkers who were 65 or older in 2020 was 28% compared to 23% for seniors citywide. Researchers also found that the poverty rate among Asian New Yorkers with a high school degree or less in 2020 was 33% compared to 27% of all New Yorkers.

They are millionaires. They worked, paid off their houses which are over $1 mil. They retired to watch grand kids but grand kids are older now. Too old to be hired and the need to help out still when grand kids get off, they collect cans. Helps to stay on medicaid too...
