Even back in the 80's when I lived on Long Island, Huntington Station was considered "the ghetto". I can't even imagine what it's like these days.
Lol. Exactly. I played soccer in Huntington starting in the 1970s and HS was ghetto then, as you say. Yet the typical loudmouth know nothing usual posters will argue to their death otherwise.
More than one potential buyer has found Huntington village appealing and has subsequently learned things can be quite a bit more expensive up near the village.. And as a fallback has looked a bit further from the village but north of 25A and found that a bit too expensive for their pocketbook too.
That group of potential buyers often skip the Station and South Huntington and instead look elsewhere. Northport (although that is a longer city commute) may be a good alternative for some in that group (not saying it is always cheaper…but the public schools may be more appealing).
I'm trying to remember what other villages/towns are near Huntington but also near the LLRR. East Northport? Hauppauge? We lived in Commack, and I remember taking the train to the city and the train station wasn't far away but I might not be remembering all the details correctly.

I guess in your opinion nothing changes in 50 years
Amazing - your experience 40 years ago is supposed to be true today??
Your imagination does not match reality!
This is someone who helped get George Santos elected and their only experience is HS in the 1970s when they were a child LMAO. I think we can get a better take from someone who grew up there and someone who lives there now and sells real estate there. Just a small hunch.
If you think the entirety of 11746 is a ghetto you simply don't know what you're talking about.

There are plenty of area that’s are nice in SHSD. I personally know people who lived there. It’s the areas you aren’t living in that the district pulls from. 4 families we know all moved, 2 to HHH and 2 to harborfields.
Interesting, my wife and I are a good 5 years out from having a kid who is ready for grade school so we aren’t too worried. What I find odd is how similar homes in Huntington are more expensive than south Huntington but all the rankings and research we showed south Huntington to be a better school district and getting better while Huntington is getting worse? (Again we are looking at like small ranches or splits etc in our price range, I’m not talking about the huge acre land private mansions by the bay or etc…as those are pricey for a reason)
I am talking about a small ranch in Southdown going for 900k and a same style home in a similar quiet and nice neighborhood in south Huntington or Maplewood going for 800k. I guess it is the proximity to the water or the town that’s more desirable?
We are definitely also looking into harbor field and hhh but most of the desirable homes in those districts are going for over a million.
have you looked in the area by St. Anthony's High School ? I drive thorugh there frequenly, looks like a nice enough neighborhood.
