Two takeaways:
1. How long was the NYT sitting on this story?
2. Wouldn't the public best be served if it was published prior to election day?
1. I don't think they were "sitting on" it; I think they just hadn't done the research pre-election. But I don't work for the NYT. Maybe they were for whatever reason.
2. Definitely agree that the public (and especially that district) would have been much better served had this story been published prior to election day. As always, hindsight is 20/20.
Think they took the race for granted in general. As it was even putting this aside, Zimmerman's campaign sucked.
The NY Dem party should be ashamed of their performance in this election cycle.
The red wave generally fizzled everywhere else and it seems like they just gave up, especially in Nassau.
I understand many incumbent Dems retired but it was an embarrassing showing for Dems.
And they should not have taken it for granted. Registered Dems outnumber registered Repubs, but there's a large independent vote. Curran losing her county exec reelection bid as a moderate Dem (and generally liked) was the warning sign that Dems were in trouble and they did nothing in response to that.
The GOP does very well with turnout on the Island.
