Some my favorite photos ever taken were from Massapequa Preserve. It is a gorgeous location complete with fishing and hiking and a fantastic place to spend a gorgeous day with the family. Massapequa Preserve - Massapequa Preserve

What is amazing to me (and I have been to Montauk Point) is that the entire length of Long Island, which topographically starts on the other side of the East River from Manhattan, is so long from west-to-east that it stretches from Manhattan's edge (just across from Manhattan in Queens and Brooklyn) to its easternmost tip nearly at the latitudinal border of Rhode Island and Connecticut. Can you believe that? It stretches from the westernmost edge of Queens and Brooklyn and going eastward as far as the border of Rhode Island . . . which is just a rather short hop to Providence, Boston, Cape Cod, New Hampshire, Maine, et al (as New England is rather compact compared to other states and regions in the U.S.). Incredible!
I always knew how the end of Long Island is about 100 miles east of NYC, but what I didn’t really realize until recently is how it is also about 50 miles north!
Boy, it's been a long, long time since anyone has felt compelled to post any photos in this thread. I wish this would change.
If I myself were stiil situated in the greater Downstate, New York metro area at-large, I myself would be posting photos here (even if I didn't reside in Long Island itself but elswhere in the Downstate New York metro area, I'm sure that I would make frequent-enough visits to Long Island for myriad reasons and hence take photos to post here . . . whether with my smartphone or with one of my owned cameras or with both at different times).
My latest set of photographic equipment and gear was bought by myself in 2009 while staying in Long Island. I bought most of it at Berger Brothers (photographic and videographic dealer with stores at the time in Amityville and in Syosset) and then supplementing those with other purchases made at various other dealers situated in New York City and in Long Island.
I took these in September when I visited my Aunt in LI, I think it was Jones Beach but I’m not certain.
I saw the sun setting and drove to the first beach I could find and I happened on a pink sunset.
Only problem is the iPhone couldn’t handle the pink sun for some reason. So the pink is harsh and distorted in these pics.
But if you can picture it, it was the most gentle pink color you can imagine.
I really need to get a zoom lens for my canon.
