Indeed. The creators were inspired by the many black vultures and turkey vultures which roost in the valley. Some great bands playing, lots of local artists vending, it's a great vibe and a good time for everybody.

I can promise you haven't been to a place like Makanda, or an event like Vulture Fest. Coming up this weekend Oct. 21 & 22.
Isn't Makanda doing somthing special for the solar eclipse next year too?

Kraftask, hello friend.

No, I was just thanking Little Egypt for sharing on my post.

My territory is anything between Milwaukee and S. 35th Street in Chicago.

Indeed. The centerline of the 2024 eclipse goes right through Makanda, as did the 2017 eclipse. The point where these two lines cross is just east of Cedar Lake. So eclipses are a pretty big deal in these parts.

I was down in Effingham over the weekend & was really impressed with everything that little town had to offer. A lot more to it than i expected & the cross down there was breathtaking It probably won't make any lists but still worth a mention for obscure IL towns.

Hmm well with Libertyville in mind, you could add Geneva & St. Charles. I think they have similar little downtowns. It's kinda tricky with the burbs since a lot of them are similar lol Also that one guy mentioned Sycamore. That town still has a lot character too. Lots of nice Victorian era architecture & treelined streets.

Kraftask, sometimes I really enjoy the old school, gritty, colorful, urban feel of the neighborhoods in Chicago.

And like you say, some of these towns have really enjoyable and charming downtowns!
