A large percentage of it will fund the new transportation capital program, which is LONG overdue.

I thought he tried to get new spending only but they said that he had to pay SOMETHING on the pensions. Is that incorrect?

They also passed doubling the gas tax and increasing registration by $50. I'm sure all the working people who have to commute or make a living with their vehicles are so grateful to the Dems for taking more food out of the mouths of their families. Great job.

As consumers move more and more towards electric vehicles (I’m looking to buy one within the next couple years), the whole gas tax system will need to be completely restructured in the near future. State and local agencies will not be able to generate nearly the same revenue through this tax as they did in prior generations. It’ll be interesting to see how taxing bodies address this not just in Illinois but across the country.

Along these lines, the conversation has picked up steam in recent years and it will be interesting to see where it ends up when the dust settles:

I would seriously not buy an electric vehicle if it came with a freakin $1000 a year registration fee, thats ridiculous

I drive a lot for work. Typically, I put on 25-30k miles a year. So even with a $1k registration fee it’s still worth it for me. I am also considering a hybrid.
