What Goat said is true. They are merely piggybacking the existing ignition and start circuits, not replacing them. On a properly set up alarm/remote system, the default position (in case of alarm failure) is whatever the car is set up for. If a relay in the ignition circuit is normally open, that's what the alarm's will be if the system fails.
