Yeah I think you should lend them some money to help them out. It’s always easy to tell others how to think and act when you’re not affected. Your accusation of the poster as holier than thou is funny because that’s exactly how your post is.
I showed compassion to someone with a sob story and didn’t qualify to rent my place.
It only cost me about $8,000 to get them out for not paying rent and for the lawyer fees and property damages. Then they threatened to sue me for pain and suffering for the eviction process.
Let someone you don’t know into your house is not lacking compassion, it’s called common sense and safety.

People must be careful nowadays:a lot of grifters, potential squatters and fraudsters looking for an easier life.
And they don’t need much.
There is a lot of bragging about it on internet - so a lot of attempts to get on that gravy train.

The sob story stinks of bad intentions and a search for gullible people of deficient mental ability due to the age, diseases, etc

If you think we are wrong in our judgment - are you prepared to let someone couch surf in your place with the story like that?
You know, “to help” a fellow human beings?

The road to hell paved with good intentions

.
This works both ways. The OP should be especially careful about someone who does allow them in…

I've been looking all over online for "work for room and board services" but all of the websites require subscriptions that are $60+

My boyfriend is basically a do-it-all handyman and I can cook, clean, take care of pets, children, I can do your grocery shopping, anything you need. We would just need a bit of time until we can get stable employment and save up. I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, if not please let me know. Also if anyone knows of any websites that give the service I'm looking for and doesn't cost an arm and a leg, please please let me know. We have a car and could come to you. Thank you for your time.
On the pretense that this post is a genuine, for real message, not written “for the lulz”, and without me making a choice as to whether it is for real on not, on the surface:

Florida is not a good place to start your life and/or career as a newly minted young adult, in general. There are places that are much more conducive to that elsewhere in the country that will earn you a lot more money and not cost so much.

Florida is rather more of an endgame retiree destination in general.

None of your age, work ethic, or social habits affect, or make any positive, at least, difference in career mobility. That’s just not how the social structure works in this area generally.

Not talking location specific, your way of doing business described;

1. Dealing in cash mostly (this is why I think I see my questioning this post, why would, but for illicit activities or such, you have $5,000 in hard currency in a car).

2. Looking to barter services, either partially or fully, for rent - you do realize that even narrowly from a monetary perspective that paying rent for a legitimate apartment is probably much cheaper for you in the long run.

This sort of unofficial arrangement, even if in strict writing contract, is fraught with opportunity for negative consequences on your end, but that is anywhere you do that in the USA. I get the sense that you really can’t afford an attorney if things you go south, and in South Florida, *mediocre* attorneys generally start at $200 an hour.

The way you are doing business in the above manner isn’t sustainable for any amount of years. Doing things by the book, while not always, but in general, be more efficient and offer you a greater life satisfaction than constantly trying to skirt the rules, and by necessity have to come up with new ways to skirt the rules or laws or whateve, by necessity, because you will keep needing to find new ways to get around whatever you are trying to get around as the other end will consistently render your methods obsolete.

Just do things the right way, it isn’t that hard, all of us or most of us do it.

That is, of course; if any of the quoted post is for real.

It very could be real. I’m thinking of this ancient 2010 thread saga of a girl in her 20s in suburban Denver, Colorado:

I wasn’t even close to being on city data at all (by my join date) but read up on it.

1. http://www.city-data.com/forum/paren...-nannying.html

2. http://www.city-data.com/forum/paren...ny-thread.html

3. http://www.city-data.com/forum/paren...fault-3-a.html

4. http://www.city-data.com/forum/paren...56-thanks.html

Too long, didn’t read that nonsense: The OP back then signed up for a similar arrangement as she saw it as the only possible way she could financially afford to move out of her mother’s house, as this OP is most likely similar (but not the EXACT same of course), and faced similar consequences, leading her to have to move back in with mom, less than 6 months after moving out.

It was, much the same as this 2024 post, the same old story of “young and dumb stereotype-person gets taken advantage of by their own lack of foresight in seeing that short term gains do not help your long term life outlook, at all, and may actually be severely harming it.”.

The poster may not be for real, but the overall concept is a huge issue for young adults - their lack of foresight and plan for the long term future.

And none other than Fort Lauderdale is this concept found more in young adults.

So these 20-somethings have 40-something parents, for the most part. Those 40-somethings have had almost two decades to nurture the minds of their children and prepare them for adulthood. I don't blame the kids for lacking critical thinking skills. I blame the parents for not teaching those skills to their kids, and for not demanding that schools continue that education in the classroom.

Instead, we have "you can't talk about your two mommies in class, because the law says you can't" and "the black slaves got a good deal being slaves because they learned skills and were happy slaves" and "diversity, equality, and inclusion are bad words we don't use them here" and "the books that talk about how Johnny doesn't have to pee standing up are bad books you're not allowed to read them we've taken them away."

And parents voted for it. And celebrate it. And teach their children to fear anything that's different. Because that's so much more important than teaching them critical thinking skills that help them maneuver around in the world as adults.

Had you read the original post, you’d know they’re in their 30s
This has nothing to do with politics

So these 30-somethings have 50-something parents. I still blame the parents for not teaching their children critical thinking skills. It's a wonder they're able to feed themselves.
