You're missing some math there. Where they came FROM - they were middle-class folks, living on a middle-class income, but their state became too expensive for the middle class to live in.

Here in Florida at the time they moved, they were considered somewhat wealthy.

Their kids were educated in some of the best schools in the country - up north. Their standard of living was higher - up north. The variety, diversity, options - were much broader - up north. But because of the cost of living, they couldn't afford to live in that way.

They came down here to live in the same manner that they had been living, until the cost of living increased - up north.

And now, they're stuck having to learn in public schools with some of the worst performers in the country. There's a reason for the trope FloridaMan. FloridaMan isn't an import from New York.

ACT test scores drop to lowest level in 30 years

Fewer High School Seniors Ready for College as ACT Scores Continue to Decline

The average Composite score on the ACT test fell to 19.5 for the class of 2023, a decline of 0.3 points from 2022, according to data released today by ACT, the nonprofit organization that administers the college readiness exam. The average scores in mathematics, reading, and science subjects were all below the ACT College Readiness Benchmarks for those subjects.

Florida has recently rejected the ACT, & moved to different standardized test...the CLT:

https://www.insidehighered.com/news/...assic-learning

Education has become a political football, & FLA feels that the ACT doesn't promote traditional values in learning, but instead promotes leftist values.

Florida leaders feel as though educators have designed standardized tests, like the ACT, to become a tool for political & cultural indoctrination.

Florida doesn't want to teach what the ACT test demands students to know, which likely explains the low scores. There is a foundational fracture in the learning objectives of the ACT org, and the State of Florida's leadership.

Low ACT scores do not neccesarily equate to poor educational outcomes when it comes to comparing state systems.

According to the US News & World Report, FLA ranks 14th for K-12, #1 for advanced learning, and #1 OVERALL!

The ACT has lost ground on both coasts of the U.S., but remains popular in the Midwest. Most colleges have dropped the ACT as an entry requirement:

Going with the highlighted it is the state of Florida that has made education political and like the Commie Hunters of the 50's see's a "leftist value" behind every tree. The only "tool for political & cultural indoctrination." resides in the Governors mansion and filters through all his cronies in the education system.

This new "standardized test." is great if your going to a 5th tier bible school but don't look for any adequate schools outside the state to accept it. "Schools that accept the CLT tend to be small, religious, private universities like Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia or Saint Martin’s University in Lacey, Washington. If you’re considering going to one of these small private colleges, then you might consider taking the CLT." https://blog.prepscholar.com/clt-exa...oogle_vignette. And I know from experience that Regents is no prize, at one time they were pushing worthless law degrees....

Enjoy the last US News ranking as they will be going down from here....

if I'm reading this right.....Florida voted to accept the CLT...along with SAT and ACT

...it has nothing to do with whether other states accept it or not...or whether a school is giving the test or not

"The Board of Governors of the State University System of Florida voted Friday to accept the Classic Learning Test, a controversial standardized testing alternative to the SAT and ACT, on applications to its 12 campuses starting this fall."

Not in Prek-12 we're 1 spot ahead of Florida and that's the one that matters when you are applying for college. But as I said wait till next year....

On another note your #46 on opportunity (click on read more on your link for the state), guess all those graduates will be going elsewhere to establish themselves in a career...

it does not matter what any other state does...accepts it or not

Florida is not "giving" the test.....Florida is "accepting" the test

someone in Maine could take the CLT and apply to a college in Florida

I am not arguing with what your saying but it does matter when a student wants to apply elsewhere in the country.

With the mindset of the Florida Department of Education as stated by the other poster "Florida doesn't want to teach what the ACT test demands students to know" these kids are going to have problems trying to get their half baked education accepted for admissions.
