this is particularly noteworthy because until 2021...Florida had never been a republican majority state

...for 176 years Florida was a democrat state

“In 2018, when Governor DeSantis took over, there were 250,000 more Democrats than Republicans in Florida”

“In November of 2021, for the first time ever, our state became a Republican state. And then today, there’s over 600,000 more Republicans than Democrats in the state of Florida. So it’s been an 850,000 registration swing towards the Republican side"

There's also almost another million PEOPLE in Florida now. So that 850,000 registration swing is - not accurate.

But that's what happens when you use Breitbart as a source.

Now let's use the official source: https://dos.myflorida.com/elections/...y-affiliation/

I'm not using a calculator but with an eyeball count:

There are around 213,000 fewer active registered voters in Florida now than there were 2 years ago.
There are 32,000 more UNaffiliated voters now, than 2 years ago.
There are 38,500 more minor party voters now, than 2 years ago.
There are 404,500 fewer Democrats now than 2 years ago.
There are 120,000 more Republicans now than 2 years ago.

So this says - there are more people whose status as "active registered voters" have ceased to exist - whether because they moved, died, were incarcerated, or were erroneously removed from the rolls, than there was an increase in Republican voters. Almost 80% more voters are no longer voters, compared to the increase in Republicans.

There almost double that in the reduction of Democrats. So sure - the Democrats are having a bad year with regards to numbers. But the Republicans aren't gaining much, comparatively.

I should also point out that a number of these voters were probably registered democrat for many years but have now voted Republican in state and federal elections for the last 10 years. I mean, especially places like North FL that still have southern culture.

States like Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky for example used to have more voters identify as Democrat. Arkansas flipped around 2010 at the state level like house and senate, Kentucky finally flipped a few years ago, and Missouri did their flip in the early 2000s.

A lot of these democrat voters finally made the flip when the democrats got too liberal.

I suspect a number of these registered voters finally flipped and registered Republican.

It's hard for people to understand southern and border south politics. Yes, you had many old timers who considered themselves democrat because they were raised that way due to the Civil War and passed down from generation. That's dying out now. That's why the south finally flipped. Still have Louisiana that still supports some democrats, same with Kentucky. Georgia it's because of migration and Atlanta.

I still don't understand how in 2020 and 2016 Trump didn't win FL by a lot. I hardly run into anyone who likes Hillary or Biden.

SE Florida is where much of this trend came from. The results in the 2020 election from Date and Broward were stunning.

Also, Venezuelan immigrants who become citizens, & vote are very likely to be Republicans after seeing 1st hand what happened to their homeland.

How can government fix a private sector issue?

They can attempt to fix it through regulation, but most regulation isn't done well, restricts free trade, & has unforeseen consequences.

The new registered Republican voters voting for DeSantis's 2nd term, allowed Florida's Governor to enact new regs of the insurance industry, which will eventually bring costs down.

I wonder if this political trend of more Republican voters in Florida will continue?

A lot of this begets itself.

FL gets a reputation for conservatism. Conservatives in other states then move to FL to be around like-minded people. Liberals in FL move out because of adverse politics.

Something will eventually break the patterns, but it's likely stuck as-is over the near term.
