Goodbye old ways of retailing (Winn Dixie, traditional supermarkets) and welcome to the new ways (European discounters).

ALDI is absolutely killing it in sales. Good to see Americans embracing the no-frills European grocery discounter model and saying sayonara to the overpriced American supermarket model.

Hope everyone has a quarter!

Maybe that'll trigger LIDL to expand here also given they've expanded into Atlanta and Savannah.

They are the bomb!

Thank Goodness. Winn Dixie is a rathole store, imho. Overpriced and if you want veggies or fruits, go somewhere else.
Their meats have gone down in quality too, which is what they built their name on (The Beef People)
For years now, we only stop by for ice or lottery tickets, their food has gone down the tubes.
Hope Aldi turns that around. We have a Winn Dixie fairly close, hope they turn it into a full-fledged Aldis so we can
check it out. Aldi's is quite a distance for us right now.

My local Winn-Dixie is actually pretty nice, and if it were closer to me I'd go more often. There was a (less-nice) one nearer to my house that I preferred to shop rather than Publix or WalMart but they closed it down many years ago...and it still sits empty. Heck, they closed one down near my home in Statesboro, GA in 1991 and it still sits empty. Harveys does very well in that area, though, since they aren't subject to the Publix monopoly.

I think the condition of the individual Winn-Dixies varies so much because SEG could not pool enough money to remodel and update all their locations, so some look good while others look....well, forgotten. The icky ones will likely be sub-divided and get a (much smaller) Aldi in part of it, while the ones in better condition remain as Winn-Dixie or Harveys. "My" Winn-Dixie is so big they could probably put three Aldi's in it. I guess the remaining space will just be given back to the landlords?

[sarcasm]It breaks my heart to realize we will no longer be entertained by those "Winn-Winn Twins" commercials all over local TV. How will I ever cope? [/sarcasm]

Aldi by me is a joke. It was when it first came here in 2012 and i was there about 4 years ago. Dark and dank in there.

I completely agree. The one near me is a complete dump in every sense of the word. And about as expensive as Publix. I would love to see that become an ALDI; although we do have a brand new ALDI not too far down the road. The WD is closer, however.
