The Publix's near me are orders of magnitude better than the Winn Dixie. I used to shop at WD, but it rapidly went downhill starting in 2001. The store by me shuttered, and then was remodeled and a Publix was the new anchor tenant.

WD then took over the new Food Lion that was built 1/2 a mile away, and it has never risen above garbage.

I do like some of Aldi's offerings. Their peanut butter cups are way better than Reese's, and most staple items are of good quality. Produce is spotty, so I pick that up at Publix.

The whole "Win Dixie" naming convention as in we're rooting for treasonists who've committed and participated in crimes against humanity in a war that ultimately took approximately 1.5 million lives has never sat well with me...bring on the Germans eek!

I love Aldi. I go there regularly over any other.

One of the Aldi locations here in NC is closing. I've shopped there before, and was never overwhelmed by the place.

This is a ridiculously competitive market, with Wegman's, Publix, Harris Teeter, Lowe's Foods, Food Lion, Fresh Market, Whole Foods, Lidl, and Trader Joe's all within a 3 mile radius from my house, to say nothing of Target, Neighborhood Walmart, and Costco.

Yet somehow we're stuck with the Publix monopoly. I just don't get it.

Savannah was much like that when I lived there. It was a bit of a shock when I moved to South Florida and saw so little competition in the grocery sector.

A local news story on the buyout mentioned that the average Winn-Dixie employs a little less than 100 employees. The average Aldi employs 8-10 people.

Getting your money back shouldn’t be an issue.
Just goes to show these stores try to pull crap like this to make more money.

We have options.
I do most of my grocery shopping at Sprouts.

Publix is convenient, and more than decent as a large chain grocer though. It’s definitely one of the tops that I have seen in the country.

I agree we have options in FL, however for chain grocers not so much. NC has Harris Teeter, Wegman's, Ingle's, Publix, Lowe's Foods, Food Lion and Piggly Wiggly.
