If grooming is made super-easy he may do it more to help keep the two of you on good terms. An experienced groomer may take notice of any ongoing skin issues/yeast infections too. They have access to lots and lots of products intended to manage them too. A thorough grooming should include checking/swabbing/flushing the ears of a flop-eared dog IMHO.

I feel for ya. When I met DH, he had 7 rescue dogs in and out of the house on 5 fenced acres. He never brushed or bathed them yet wanted them in bed with us.

In short order, it came to an ultimatum and they stayed mostly outside. Then finally died.

And I love animals.
