Mine changes. I grew up with Dobermans, so for a long time they were my first choice.
I never would've even put mini poodles on my list, but I rescued one two years ago and she's been one of the best dogs I've ever known. Since smaller dogs suit my lifestyle better than the big ones I tend to admire, I will likely consider another mini poodle in the future.
If I could give a good life to a big dog, my picks are Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs, English Shepherds, Rough Collies, and Goldendoodles. Swissies are probably my favorite of all, though.
My all time favorite is the Maltese, as they are cute, portable and, hypoallergenic. Currently have a Maltese/Poodle named Briscoe. A Jack Russell mix named Eddie, and a Yorkie named Daphne.
for the lil guys its the Chinese crested...
next up in size would be English cocker spaniel
then id say standad poodle, Doberman, saluki an afghan hound and standard xolos
and from there Great Dane
Well seeming that all I've ever had so far really has been Dobermans (and one Chow), I'll say Dobermans. I do love Great Danes too but have never owned one, yet.
I admire so many breeds, it's hard to just list a few.
With my current life, I prefer a well bred Labrador.
If the kids were older and I was single, I would be sorely tempted to get a German Shepherd from working lines and get in to schutzhund (hubby keeps nixing the idea)
I love the graceful beauty of most breeds of sighthounds but I don't think our personalities would mesh.
I have fond memories of a great Dane I had as a teen. I don't think I would get another giant breed with such a short life span, but they are definitely among my favs.
I could go on and on...
Right now the only dog we have is a husky (hubby's choice). As a breed they are definitely not among my favs and I would not get another, but she is part of the family and we love her.
Since I live in town, I wouldn't have a big dog (again). My last three have been two Yorkies and (currently) a Silky. I've really liked all three. The Silky, Patti, is pretty much an overgrown Yorkie.
