I have a diferent take on that, jetpro. My southern Colorado town (pop. less than 65) is about 50 miles from a gas pump, store of any kind, bank/ATM, medical care, reliable cell phone service, etc., and in winter, the main road in isn't plowed between 7pm and 5am. Some would say we're isolated. Most of my neighbors are grounded, resourceful, generally self-reliant, no-nonsense folks. Can't afford not to be, really.
Yes, it's pretty laughable to consider Canon City "isolated".
We are within 45 mins to Pueblo or Colorado Springs, we have a hospital, Wal-mart, Home Depot, cell phone service, numerous gas stations, restaurants, banks, rec district, etc, etc, etc. Population is at least 16,000. Hardly isolated!
Some people here are weird. Some people in big cities are weird. Some people who live out in the boonies are weird. Big deal. Live and let live.
Let's see: prisons, trailer parks, dirt roads, few businesses, liquor stores, old pickup trucks, far right churches, far right politics, 2nd ammendment enthusiasts, and a general sense of backwardness.
I live in Canon City and my neighbor is a far left socialist and meets with his socialist friends every few weeks at a coffee shop in town. I don't always agree with his views but like talking to him when I'm not drinkin cheap beers or drivin my ole pickup truck with my hound dog in the back on the way to my far right church down next to the prison by the bars where there are always piles of beer bottles in the road and crowds of rednecks shootin guns in the air next to the trailer park with all them dirt roads. Honestly, my wife and I are both college educated professionals and love Canon City.
I've lived in both the high desert in CA and Canon City....there's no comparison....although I can see where it would be easy to think there is. People live in Canon for different reasons than those who live in Apple Valley, Victorville, or Hesperia.
Whats life like in canon city ? I have a chance to relocate & im considering it greatly. I know cost of living is cheaper in colo & the politicians are not owned by the public unions like they are here in ca. Right ?
Steel7, this is the thread I was referring to in the dm I sent ya just a little bit ago. Hopefully this will help a little on Colorado residents opinions. I'll dm ya again sometime tomorrow with the other end of that message!
Steel7, I've just activated a thread for your convenience. It's Canon City-What's it Like There?
