Are there many Barbershops in CC? I have a Barbershop in AZ and would love to bring my family there to raise our children and also open a shop or purchase one. BTW, I live in Florence AZ and it is known as a "prison town" also, I like it but its just too hot for me. 7 yrs. in AZ is enough to drive anyone out.
After living in Virginia, Arizona, Hawaii, I'm going to Canon City to retire. The whole country has gone nutz. Need 40 ac and a shotgun and a pack of dogs.Anyone want to buy/trade some land in Hawaii.?I have 20k sqft lot, paved roads power, nice subdivision.LETS MAKE A DEAL!

If the whole country has gone nuts you might be joining them moving to Canon City.
Although Canon City seems like an ideal destination (my husband and I sure thought so) there are some dirty little secrets you should know about. First, most of the people here work for the prison system and tend to bring their work home with them. This leads to some very angry people. Second, the families of the prisoners tend to want to live close to the prison where their loved one is incarcerated so you get some very undesirable people in town, if even temporarily. Third, the school system here is questionable judging by standardized test results. Fourth, there is just not much to do here. A trip to Colorado Springs is required once in a while to retain your sanity. To sum up, my husband and I came here without really checking the town out and now we are sorry we made the move. We have found Canon City to be a very strange place.

I have lived in Canon City for close to a decade now and to tell you the truth, I hated it when I first moved here for the same reasons you stated above.
However, the darn place has really grown on me over the years, despite itself.
There is a certain strangeness here, some unique elusive quality that you can either love or hate, or chose to ignore.
I have come to embrace Canon City and all of its oddities and eccentricities. There is a certain charm about this place that is very unique. Sure there may be some "undesirables" here, but aren't there everywhere? Its just part of the diversity of experience.
I have school aged kiddos and to my knowledge, the Canon City RE-1 district scores fairly well on CSAP tests. (Perhaps you had it confused with RE-2 Florence/Penrose?) I have heard and experienced nothing but good things in the school system here.
So i would say: don't write-off Canon City just yet. This place may have you "doing time" yet!
We went through Canon City (not worried about the spelling accuracy). It looked like a run down crack town. We didn't even stay there like we had intended because the place did not give us a sense of security feeling. That was before we even saw the prison!
