We stayed in Cañon City for a few days last year. Absolutely loved our time there. I certainly wouldn't call it run down, at least by the standards of places I've been through.
A quick question, though. Obviously, the proper name is Cañon City, with the eñe. This isn't always practical to type, for whatever reason. Wouldn't the correct approximation, using the English alphabet, be to write "Canyon City" to at least preserve the pronunciation? Or is the writing of "Canon City" just a remnant from the time when the relatively recent time when the city was known as "Canon City?" Has the pronunciation changed at all?
I lived there for a few years....a nightmare to be sure. They even had a support group in town for new people who could not "adjust". That pretty much says it all! Reminds me of some of the high desert towns in California, very weird vibe.
Well there you go.".like it or not".....Before you even saw "THE" prison????Ahemmm...there are like 13 prisons!!!!!!!!!!
Canon City is the best place ever!!! I grew up in Denver and love love love the the mountains,however...NOTHING beats Canon City!!! Well...maybe Breckenridge but, I digress!! There is absolutely nothing to complain about in this picturesque town!!! NOTHING!!

Seriously, some of these descriptions of Canon City are hilarious.
If I didn't already lived here, I would be extremely intrigued.
But, then again, don't listen to us Canon City people. We all have three eyes, glow a strange color of green, and drag a ball and chain around behind us.

Yes, I've been to the kayak park with my kids - they loved it!
I gave an honest assessment of my time in Canon. I think the problem with that town is that most of the people ARE living in the twilight zone. I guess thats what happens when you are in an isolated area, you start to make your own reality to fit the circumstance. I assume when people post a question they would like an honest answer.
Isolated??? My oldest son works in Antarctica...now THAT'S isolated!!!
